New Routes

Post by HE849 »

Anything in the British Isles, please! Some personal favourites to throw into the melting pot:

Ashover
GVT
Dinorwic/Penrhyn ( a quarry gallery line?)
Heywood lines (for our 15" fans)
Furzebrook
Snailbeach
Tralee and Dingle

talk about ambitious, but I am a newcomer to MSTS so I beg forgiveness!

I suspect that the two quarry lines may be the most difficult if not impossible because of the resolution of the terrain that is available. MSTS comes in 8 meter squares and that is too big in many places.

Quarry Lines:

Been there tried that and got some reasonable results. However the main problem is the incline plains. The quarries ran on galleries and its neigh on impossible to get this in MSTS. The way i did was with a series of swtich backs, fine for a generic quarry however for anything based on realism i dont think this would be possible.

Just out of intrest what would people prefer, Isle of Man or my other favorite system, The County Donegal?

Im something a fan of both to be honest, Manx Peacocks, versus the CDR Baltics, 45 route miles on the IoM to about 70 on the CDR.... railcars, obscure diesel shunters, and little wayside stations adorned both.

:)... It is rather tempting. I think whatever I make after the WHR it will be for the next generation of train sims. I would imagine that by the time WHR is done (roughly the autum/ late summer) there will be a new sim out and whatever I make next (either Isle of Man or CDR) will be on this.

We shall see, after all there a fair few months left to decide.

I have thought about the romney route, but my moddeling isnt up to scratch and I have no time to learn at the moment. If there is enough interest I may build a detailed fictional 15inch line. would need some more stock though...

I am another Leek and Manifold fan. But that apart the Isle of Man and/or the County Donegal/L&LSR (including Burtonport extension) would be an awful lot of fun. The Swilly even had tender engines, after all!

What about the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway?, Nice little 15in gauge railway with a couple of steep climbs on the West coast of the Lakedistrict and just a couple of miles away from Selafield power plant!!!

(the trains have been rumoured to glow green at night!)
