No cabs for Narrow Gauge trains

Post by RobertM »

Hi all,

I have noticed that there arn't any cabs for Narrow Gauge trains and I was wondering whats going on.

People are making good models like 'Russel' & 'Monarch' but no one is bothering to make cabs for them. It is very weird if I'm driving Russel along the Ffestiniog route and be using the scotsmans cab view.

Does anyone know of any cabvies

Terry Thornton's NG models , his Wrens, simplexes and diesel come with cabs, there is also the WLLR TSC Diema diesel, though i admit we are short on NG cabs

This is true, mainly because thy are so hard to make... hopefully WHR will redress this balance. But yeah some new custom NG cabs would be nice.

I have made a NG cab but it uses some controls that others have built so I am not sure it can be released really. But I could put the background ace files up if foks want them. They are for

1. a full open cab
2. a straigt door cab like an alice class
3. a cuved door like a decauville type

they are generic but feel more narrow gauge like

I'll seee if I can do that tonight

Several of Kevmt's locos have cabs based on the Golsdorf 380 parts rejigged. Makes a big difference.

The cab I use for saddle tank NG locos that don't come with a cab is the Kitson cab that used to be available freeware from 3D Train Stuff. It's not available any more but it is a pretty good fit for NG.

I have successfully used the HR Passenger Tank cab on my Rye & Camber engines: Camber and Victoria. The portholes and simple controls are perfect for a narrow gauge engine. The view out of the cab, however, is a bit too high, but it sure beats having a Flying Scotsman cabview. Another to try is the HR Ben / Barney cab. Both are available here at UKTrainsim.
