Earlier, John mentions the need for donations to help with funding the carriage rebuilds.
If anybody feels like treating my carriage models as "donationware" and would like to send him a donation to help then I'm sure John wouldn't object.

Many thanks to the people who have complimented these coaches.

(and very nice pictures, Dale)

Cheers

Hi

Perhaps making the members of the Vintage Carriage Trust aware of it might get some more donations, and sponsorhip deals with local/national companies could also be explored.

The Public Launch took place at the carriage convention at Keithley - so I think they are definatly aware!

Well, having tried out the buffet car remains for size, I can honestly say that the main comments are going to be (in this order from platform to seat)
a) Oooooooooh, innit pretty
b) Mmmmmmm, beer and cakes
c) (sfx - Thunk) OW, bloody roof
d) Mmmmmmm, beer and cakes

repeat c and d until passenger has passed out on the floor either from standing up to much, or imbibing too many of the goodies on offer.

In case you hadn't figured it out, maximum internal headroon in this thing is 5' 7" in the middle of the carriage, and about 5' 3" at the eaves, its diddy - even the buffet counter is at, erm, groin height. In order to imagine ordering something in it stand up whilst trying to take up the minimum floor space possible, bend your head forwards so it is at 90 degrees to your body, then pick up a full glass from, say, your dining table. Then rotate, on the spot, through 90 degrees clockwise, and sidle sideways through any 18" wide gap you can find, at all times keeping arms and legs well tucked in to your body, and your head bowed low.

Enjoy the experience? Give me a tenner a month and come and do it for real at the WHR!

Cheers,

John
I'm over that way (FR Metals) from th 19th, so may see if I can pop in, I'll be helping the FR P&G Dept with the October Gigabash, may make a fixed donation to you because, as I said, I'm donating towards the rebuilding until Sept 2009. I would definately like to see a full WHR/NWGRly set, I rode in 24 shortly before it went North, and can proudly say (thanks to my brother being one of the FR Heritage Carriage builders/restorers) that it has to be one of the BEST coaches to ride in, I've even ridden in it on the Northern Branch and it was far better than any of the Winson Engineering coaches!

I've thought of a few comments for my activities today (during work mainly) and will post screenies of them on a seperate thread, keep this one for the coaches. When would the coaches be availible if funding was around now anyway? Gives an earliest date for the activities to be set!

Fixed donations are perfectly fine, but for gods sake dont give it to anyone at the WHR(P) if its for Ashbury - nobody would know what to do with it! Nip to http://www.ashburycarriages.co.uk, click on Donation Form, fill in and send to me in Northampton.

Hopefully we can give Norman, Martyn, David and Glenn some more work from this, I fully intend that 21 will be going to Boston Lodge to be rebuilt.

Erm, hard to say really. I would imagine probably 3 years from start of work, assuming all funding was either in place or pledged. So probably start of 2008 season if all goes well. Of course the Lodge have an annoying habit of being so bloody good at the job that I might say "go" to Wol, and the carriage would be built in under a year, as with 24, which would leave me scrabbling for cash that hasn't been raised yet!

Cheers,

John

How about I give half the money to Glenn (thanks for getting his name right by the way, FR mag never gets it right!) and the other half to you? On second thoughts, I know Glenn only too well, I'll send my contribution to you in full, do you accept cheques?

I'll accept anything, but yes, a cheque is fine (just remember to send the form as well)

Sorry to dig up this relatively old topic...

I am working on a new version of my Pickering Brake I built for Rail3D (I hope this is OK, it is NG... ;) ) about a year and a half ago, using proper texturing (Rail3D did not support this when I built the original). The original used 100s of polys, to get the panelling, this new version replaces all that with a single panel with a texture!

It represents the NWNG un-cut down version:

Obviously it has a few bits missing at the moment (guards duckets, door handles, being able to see right though the inside walls...), but I haven't yet copied them across from the old model.

I have been working from the details in the Boyd book, Narrow Gauge Railways in South Caernarfonshire, Volume 1, and on page 181 there is a nice side on photo.

My question is does any one know what colour the livery is?

I have always assumed its red (hence the WIP shot), but I'm not sure. I was hoping that someone would be able to shed some light on this...

Cheers

Richard

Richard,

The only reference I can find indicates that the livery would be crimson lake.
When first built they would have also have been lined out in gold as well.

Thank you! ;)

Do you have plans to release this version of the Pickering for MSTS?

If not, I will try and convert my model. I am just about getting the hang of 3D Canvas...
