Didn't you notice I'd said the trains were Circa 2007? Russell will still be Maroon then with full height cab (not Col Stephens ruinous cutdown) but if Kevin would be so kind as to create a Stephens era Russell, then we could create decent activities for the WHR route set in the thirties!

Would be nice, but being privy to some rather crucial information in this regard it can't be 2007......

In 2007, it is doubtful that Russell will be in steam, more likely part way through a major major overhaul to remedy some of the bits that were done wrong in 87. If it is, it won't look like that - it'll be in its proper NWNGR maroon with full lining, rivets on the tanks and smokebox rather than the botchjob appearance in a totally non authentic livery it is at the moment (these are the words of one of the WHR(P) directors and also the leader of the russell restoration fund, so don't shoot me for them)

In 2007 I doubt that any of the carriages will be ready for service, especially if we keep up the dearth of subscriptions we have at the moment.

I want this to happen so so badly you wouldn't believe, this is why I comissioned the carriages in order to try and prove it was a good thing, but I can't if I don't get any money (hint hint etc). Its all on http://www.ashburycarriages.co.uk (assuming it works for you) - please help me realise a dream.

Cheers,

John

Incidentially, it wouldn't be the 1930s either. That particular combination of carriages a) never ran together and b) never ran simultaneously in the variety of liveries and conditions modelled. Just being pedantic :)

pps - the carriages as released are as we intend to recreate them, liveries and all - should add a bit of variety to the heritage fleet

ppps - moneymoneymoneymoney (sorry)

I'm already supporting the WHR £1,200 over the next 5 years, but as MSTS can be any period, (and there's no WHR link min FR route) then I'll still say 2007 (at least until 2006 when it'll probably change to a few more years in the future. Incedentaly, I intend to create a series of activities using the new coach models, using Welsh Pony to haul them (including 23 and 24) to various locations, I'm going to include comments from various passenger at different points along the line and would like a few suggestions (this is whilst working on my route as well!).

Pictures from activities will appear when ready,(including one or two of the comments!)

Good photo, Russell is in cut down form though, so the MSTS model would need changing to recreate the scene.

Well, having tried out the buffet car remains for size, I can honestly say that the main comments are going to be (in this order from platform to seat)
a) Oooooooooh, innit pretty
b) Mmmmmmm, beer and cakes
c) (sfx - Thunk) OW, bloody roof
d) Mmmmmmm, beer and cakes

repeat c and d until passenger has passed out on the floor either from standing up to much, or imbibing too many of the goodies on offer.

In case you hadn't figured it out, maximum internal headroon in this thing is 5' 7" in the middle of the carriage, and about 5' 3" at the eaves, its diddy - even the buffet counter is at, erm, groin height. In order to imagine ordering something in it stand up whilst trying to take up the minimum floor space possible, bend your head forwards so it is at 90 degrees to your body, then pick up a full glass from, say, your dining table. Then rotate, on the spot, through 90 degrees clockwise, and sidle sideways through any 18" wide gap you can find, at all times keeping arms and legs well tucked in to your body, and your head bowed low.

Enjoy the experience? Give me a tenner a month and come and do it for real at the WHR!

Cheers,

John

Please note that this topic is supposedly about the "Ashbury Railway Carriage Collection" (+ the Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co." ), and not "I want a Green Russell".

Cheers
