MSTS isnt bad really when it comes to physics. The original KUJU ones were well out, however it is possible to get reasonable reaslitic physics with the steam engines. The deisels I couldnt really comment on, having not driven as much diesel as steam.
I also dont like the idea of no proper steam cabs, adding to the 'model railway' feel of Trainz. Anyway, MSTS vs Trainz has been discussed much before, I guess at the end of the day its all personal preference and it depends on what different people want from a railway simulator.
Chris
P.S@ Robert I see this is version 3.0.0 isnt that the same as just version 3? or 3.0? Seemed a little odd thats all!?

Actually not quite true Chris, as Trainz 2004 does come with a complete set of "full 3D" steam cabs. Can't really comment on physics as I've never actually driven a "real one".pitleyfalley wrote:I also dont like the idea of no proper steam cabs, adding to the 'model railway' feel of Trainz. anyway this is getting a little off topic. personaly i think that the interface and graphics quality is better in trainz. Where as msts has better train physics and a sharper immage. i didnt say i wasnt going to use msts i said i wasnt going to BUILD for it after finnishing the B&SR. (unless the interface for route building is improved in msts2) there lets leave it at that shall we and get back on topic...

I tryed out in SP2 with an LMS 4F 0-6-0 & 4 Mk1 Coaches (by sdark) and she has some troubles getting up, in my opinion a mediumish hill, which I found an overdose on the psyhics if anything...but I still think Trainz is best.robert159 wrote:even though (to my great disapointment) i have never driven a train it did strike me that msts had better train physics. most of the steam engines i found in trainz were like driving very well disquised deisels. also i found gradients could be made to ludicrous gradients without troubling the engines much.
Anyway, I'll stop going off topic (and yes there are 3D cabs in Trainz Chris)...
Cheers,
John

well if we must continue this i am going to state my position on the trainz/msts situation once and for all. i hope allot of you agree with what i say.
1) trainz looks better, but it feals like your further away.
2) trainz has better interface. (specially for laying track and fences)
3) can shove more items in an area of the map without the pc going jurky (less procesor hungry)
4) msts semes to have much more realistic world physics. specially for steam engines (which by the way is the whole point of a symulator, so this is a BIG one)
5) trainz cabs are much nicer to use. even if as has been pointed out they may not be as realistic
6) trainz sounds allot nicer
7) it SEMES you can put more pixels on MSTS but the colour definition misteriously disapears into horrible block colours.
this is why earlier on i said trainz is MOSTLY better.
i wish we could have a hybrid between the 2 but thats just cloud cocoo land.
i prefer to use trainz as a model railway and msts as my symulator.

Trying to download V3.0.0 now, been position 7 in non-premium queue for 1/2 hour now! wish these people who were downloading big files would PAY for premium membership, I WILL when I get paid in a few weeks, V2 was brill, V3 should be better!
Thank you for having the patience to produce a route that is enjoyable for all.
One question robert159, would it be possible for us to create activities and upload them here for others to have fun with? I have an idea for an activity but would like to share it with others instead of being selfish.
once again thanks for a good route

YES it is...in fact i encorage it. The B&SR was built and shared with the idea of outside envolvement in the line all the way through.
in other words the B&SR is open to all to tinker with in any way you may wish. you may create activities, add scenary, create your own unofficial patchups (from V2.1.3 building on top of V3.0.0 or other patchup if avalable), reskin or create engines or coaches for the JLR (smaller engines than B&SR PLS i.e wrens and smaller).
AND YOU ARE ENCORAGED TO UPLOAD ANYTHING THAT IS ANY GOOD.
*important (1)*
im not going to be doing the B&SR route for a few months or so while i take a break from MSTS to explore other creative activities (such as the story im wrighting for my little sister and me) so now is the time to add your mark to the actual construction of the line.
*important (2)*
one last thing... if you send me a coppy prior to uploading at rbh3(at)kent.ac.uk i may add my seal of aproval to it and make it an official B&SR file. and send you an appropreate .jpg to add to the display immage.
