That opens up an interesting question (although off the topic), how long will MSTS stay around for when KRS appears? I wonder how many other people are put off starting a route because new software is coming up?
Andy
ps know what you mean about the graphics handling, I have a new pc with 128mb graphics, 1Gb RAM and still it judders!!

The "when will MSTS die?" discussion is one that's been had many times before. Certainly I will keep running it until both new sims come out, so I can compare them and make my mind up as to which I want to buy. And I think there are plenty of routes in development for it still, so there's no need to worry there.andrewtoplis wrote:That opens up an interesting question (although off the topic), how long will MSTS stay around for when KRS appears? We are getting OT now but I'm sure MSTS will soldier on for a long time after the new sims become popular. Most good or well-loved software stays on the HDDs of fans and eventually becomes a kind of cult (Grand Prix Legends for example) but as for the mainstream user, it's dead and forgotten.
However once the majority discover the extra features and super duper graphics of the new sims, MSTS will die, after all, that's why new sims get developed!
Lets just hope that transporter wagon operation (or some way of cheating to represent it) can be got from TMTS or KRS.

Hi Dave,
I understand what you are saying about the limitations of MSTS, as comparing it to software which is now available, is like comparing 8mm cinie film, with DVD's.
Since MSTS came out in 2001, the latest games are way ahead in terms of graphics, etc. Had Microsoft developed Train Simulator, like they have with their flagship Flight Simulator, things would have certainly be better than what they are at present.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel, with the two developing new Train Simulators, that hopefully will emerge sometime later in 2006.
With these new products, it will probably be much easier and much graphically better, to produce routes and rolling stock, that will look much more realistic than is possible at present.
I hope that the Leek & Manifold will still be in your thoughts when the new sims arrive, as with Bob Gratton's new publication on this railway, everything needed to build it is there for the reference.
I think your decision to release the already available stock which you have worked so hard on, would be very welcome and would at least give everyone the pleasure of running them, on other NG routes, even if it's not actually along the Manifold.
But personally, I think that this route does deserve a place in Train Simulation, even if we do have to wait for the new later developements.
I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has had an interest in working on the L&M project and who at least has made the effort to try and get it done, if nothing else.
Maybe it is not the end of the Virtual Leek & Manifold, just yet.
Regards
Geoff

I dont really want to delve into this too much, its not the place and the discussion has been done to death elsewhere. However there is a question of compatibility when the new sims come out. Theres nothing to say they wont be MSTS compatible, maybe not entierly, but certainly for items such as scenery and stock I would imagine MSTS stuff will work in the new sims. It possibly wont look as good, but may well give a large basis to form the new sim addons from.
My view, certainly stock and scenery wise is carry on building for MSTS...
Route wise im not so sure, im secretly hoping MSTS routes will import...
