The Duffield bank railway was built by Sir Aurthur Heywood to demonstrate the use of 15inch railways for industrial agricultral and millatary use where a standard gauge or even 2ft gauge line would be unsuitable and costly. The line featured 2 loops, a tunnel, a 60ft tresle bridge and an extensive workshops these were a long way below the actuall running line and were accesed up 1in23 climb includeing reverse curves.

The line eventually attracted the attention of the Duke of Westminister who had a line of 1 1/2 miles built in the grounds of Eaton Hall to shift genral goods around the estate.

Quite a bit of both railways survive.
As far as i know from duffield bank there is:

The Chassis of 0-8-0T Muriel incorpated into R&ER loco River Irt.
Several Wagons
What is probably one of the oldes bogies in the world after Ffestiniog Railway no 15-16 from one of DBR coaches.
As well as this replicas have been built of No 1 Effie and one of no 2 ella is under construction. the Dynometer coach and the Dinning Coach have also been built.

A lot more survives from the Eaton Hall railway:
The frames of Katie currently being rebuilt at Ravenglass.
An open Coach and the Closed saloon.
A 4w Brake van and a number of wagons.

On the replica front one loco has been built No2 Ursula as well as bogie brake van. A replica Saloon has been built and runs of the Duke of Wesminister private railway at Eaton and is not open to the public.

I'll post some pictures of the models soon however i lost the textures for Ursula and the Wagons. So there old pictures.

Code: Select all

one of no 2 ella is under construction
Where's that one Tim, i know the original ran at Ravenglass for years after DBR was dismantled and some parts were used in Bonnie Dundee, have the now redundant sidetanks formed a basis for a replica?

I'd personally like to see an original condition replica 0-8-0T Muriel before it was remodelled to River Irt

Ah well, best place for them, the line is built Heywood style with sharp reverse curves and steep grades, had a footplate ride on Ursula there a few years ago.
