You would be surprised how far you can go on a boiler full of water.
As long as you are aware of the situation and know where the next supply is, it's no different to having a very small water tank.
Indead, if you look carefully at the first shot, the injector water feed is all ready to take a hose conection.

D'oh, I forgot about the water actually in the boiler! Guess you just have to be very careful not to boil it dry

Glad to see she is back. We once managed from above Brynglas to Wharf with dry tanks on No.2. We were down to about 1/2 a glass at Pendre but it was fine really. Traction engines oftern run between stops with empty tanks.
I would imagine when they went to hendy they might have taken an oil drum with water in on the footplate of No.9.
When Russell first steamed again in 1986, it ran with only a water drum for a tender. Was fine though for the first steam up's and tests.

Nice too see it running again.
Good job it wasn't a cold day without the lagging on.

Its the only Talyllyn engine ive never fired aswell! Probably never will now what with the steam roller taking up so much time. Will be nice to see it back in green.I must say, it is nice to see Edward Thomas on it's way back! It's such a fantastic locomotive. Hopefully I'll see it as Edward Thomas as i've only ever seen it as Peter Sam before

It's all hands to the pumps at Pendre getting loco No. 4 ready for Spring Bank Holiday week. The fireman's side bunker and cab are back on now, though the cab still needs bolting down. The boiler lagging work is complete, and the firebox has been clad while new cladding sheets are being fabricated for the barrel. When this is done the saddle tank can go back on.
The brake gear still requires some assembly and adjustment. The air reservoirs were pressure tested and installed at the weekend and a start made on the air system plumbing. There is still quite a bit of plumbing work to do both air and steam side. The air pump and its exhaust need fitting to the new smokebox. The loco has been painted in unlined TR green.
The photos below were taken yesterday (24th May) by Alex Eyres.
