I reckon its the WHR
1 Different Guage (the ex LNWR Caernarvon-Dinas section
2 Four Hunslets (Linda, Blanche, Alice, Lilla, Velinheli?)
3 Lakeside section Llyn Llewellyn
4 Its obviously not the length it once was.
And a nother clue part of the "Current" trackbed.......
again, whatever it is best of luck to you all

I don't think that Linda or Lilla have been over to Caernarfon, but Russell has, and 'she' is a Hunslet.davidaward wrote: 2 Four Hunslets (Linda, Blanche, Alice, Lilla, Velinheli?)
I wait to be corrected....

Heya,
Correct, Russel, Lilla, Linda, Blanche(?), Velinhelli, Alice, Harold and Lady Madcap have all worked over the WHR (Lady Madcap at the Porthmadog end!); the other Llanberis hunslet is Dolbadarn (Elidir, Una and Thomas Bach); so it could be either!
. The NGG16's happen to be one of my favorite class of engine!
And as for me ditching the TR hehehe well Spontin is taking care of that neck of the woods admirably I believe!
All details will be released soon, were just consulting a few people first of all.....

Umm, lose Lady Madcap, she's still jut frames at the moment, rewheeling will probably take place this year though. Add Britomart (which has run at the WHR(P)) and, if we can be historically pedantic, Gowrie. I can't think of any other quarry hunslets that have visited the WHR(P), but I may well be wrong in so thinking. As a quick addition to this, a browse of the WHR(P) website shows they have a 50HP Hunslet No.11, 2 ex JLE Hunslet-Barclays called Kathy and Emma, a 43HP Hunslet called Weighitin and a 40HP Hunslet No. 5.pitleyfalley wrote:Heya,

I think thats about as comprehensive as you can get. A total of 14 Hunslet products have run on the various Welsh Highland trackbeds (to get around Gowrie being an NWNGR but not a WHR engine) whether under their own power or not, and number 15 is well on the way to becoming a rolling chassis again

To the best of my knowledge it cant be the Llanberris Lake Railway because the Padarn Railway, whose route it now runs over, was not built to standard gauge but to 4 foot Gauge.
It may be the Welsh Highland but the clues are somwhat cryptic if it is. My guess is the Bala Lake Railway because of the Hunslet clue and the lake clue.

Gowrie was sold by the NWNG to try and quickly recouperate funds to meet their ever present debt. The loco was sold in 1918 to the Government's Minstry of Supply, who would later sell it it on to Wakes Geneva Yard in Darlington. In 1922 it went to Marske on Sea, near Redcar, and was offered for sale again in 1928. To who it was sold, and where it went from here is unknown.
Snowdon Ranger and Moel Tryfan were both built in 1877 at the Fulcan Foundary. Both locomotives were life-expired 40 years later in 1917. Unable to aford a replacement, the answer was to build a 'hybrid' locomotive from the pair. This took the name "Moel Tryfan" and was passed onto the WHR in 1922. This loco used the frames from Snowdon Ranger and The Bolier from Moel Tryfan. In remained in traffic until 1935, when it was withdrawn in need of bolier repairs and a heavy overhaul. Sent to Boston Lodge for these to take place, it was dismantled, but no work was ever carried out, although the loco offically passed into FR ownership upon the closure of the WHR in 1937. The loco remained at Boston Lodge, untill the remains were cut up by the FR in 1955.

But Fulcan *is* Vulcan, if you pronounce it in properspeak (tm). Incidentially, I was racking my brains yesterday trying to think of that one loco that I was positive I had missed, and Beddgelert was indeed it. Revised WHR Hunslet total of 15, soon to be 16.BruceB wrote:Sorry![]()
