Quarry Inclines.

I’ve been able to do this, whilst messing around with something else.
Is anyone interested?

Hi Andrew,

I've not got any real use for an incline, but i'd love to know how you got such a steep gradient with the track? I've only managed 6 degrees with the track and the Snowdon Mountain Railway requires much more than this.

Please, do tell how you got it this steep and can you actually run stock on it?

Cheers, Chris

And does it work properly, I think there are some kneeling cows in the file library to test it out.

Wow how the heck did you do that?

In theory if the track does work, all it will need is a rather powerfull slate wagon with a lot of adhesion and we could have a working incline... *smiles at the thought of Penrhyn*

Chris.
I was, strangely enough, doing this to try and build a rack railway for your engines.
However a great many issues have manifest themselves, the terrain really does not like this grade at all, so far the only way I can alter the track sections is manually in the World File (a long and very tedious job) and not least of all, the loco has just stalled with full cut off, full regulator and sand!

Great bit of discovery again Andrew, a few NG routes could do with steeper gradients, the Ffestiniog could have an abandoned incline at Blaenau as a static scenery item.

Try and use the Supercharged Dash 9 or the Jet Train!

Oh I like that!! I could actually model Snowdon at its full height now. Even on a 6 degree slope, the terrain has trouble jumping to the rail height. And yes, the locos need a bit more power, i've had some trouble with them running out of steam.

Usually, if they start to slow down, slam the break on, waiting a few minutes and then regulator on about 60 percent and take the brakes off!!

Chris
I think that adhesion is the problem here? In the shot above the train was actually sliding backwards with the brakes on! Maybe Saddletank can advise here.
I've got the gradient problem up in the US forum as well, so we may get some more help from across the pond.

Yeah, rush the Hopton incline with a J94 or North London tank! Dave Bran will be interested for sure! superpowerful AI wagons that go up & down the inclines, or would it be better done with animation?

let's put Duncan up there with some slate trucks

(you gotta watch "Dunkin Duncan" for that gag)

Besides that, maybe we'll see some inclines for quarries soon...and possibly and activity where the slate cars actually can go up and down while we wait to shunt them over into the sidings and trains :o :D

Hi

To solve the Terrain problems you could try using embankment pieces tilted to the right Angle.

Yes, thanks for that suggestion.
I had already started down that route. (No pun intended).
