FRS,

There were plans to make them a while ago, and I believe richard osbourne started them?! If not Jur was planning on doing them maybe if southwold ever got done (I think) have patience and maybe Santa will bring you something nice for x-mas.

It doesnt help that they were all basically different in little ways and that they changed quite alot during thier lives aswell.

Another one converted to the finest narrow gauge systems in the world.

Yep, even one Isle of Man Railway Beyer, Peacock 2-4-0T would be nice as long as its No. 11 Maitland - my favourite.

BTW, I hope you bought a copy of my book(s) while you were on the Island !!

Glad you enjoyed the island and its railways - the weather gods were kind too.

Cheers

Don't forget the Isle of Man has more narrow gauge than you can wave a stick at. Steam - Diesel - Electric and even Horse power - Visitors most welcome...........

Caledonia's not a Beyer, Peacock though. She's a Dub's, from Glasgow, and quite different to the 2-4-0's.

WHile we're on the subject of her, who also thinks she looked better in MNR Maroon than in the Royal Blue she wears today?

David.

Yep - I am the one guilty of writing the Manx Peacocks book.

Its slightly out of date now with recent events, but it still stand as the ulimate guide to the Isle of Man locomotives. Perhaps in a few years time I might do an updated version with all new pictures in it as I still have a load of those superb 1950s and 1930s pictures still waiting to be published.

I am currently doing a new book - Narrow Gauge Railways in Profile No. 4 (or it could be No.5) Isle of Man Railway Locomotives & Rolling Stock, which is due to be published by Cheona Publications next summer for around £10. Its a good mix of old and new, B&W and colour pictures.

Cheers

Going back to the topic about Caledonia,

Although i think the engine looked far better in maroon, complete with that wonderful lining the blue doesnt look all that bad when you get up close to it. What i feel has ruined the engine was the lining which i think is appaling. Its a shame they couldnt have replaced the old lining with new in the same style, albeit on a blue not maroon background.

But never mind, its this new image the railway is puitting out, and i must say i think it all looks very smart. The new trackbed is the best its been ever! I feel that if the IoM governemt are going to spend £12M? On the railways then the least we can do is put up with engines which arent the colours we like. Im just happy to see the railway surviving espeically when not so many years ago, it was looking like a whole different story.

[quote]

The Rye and Camber Bagnall locos available on UKTS Camber and Victoria are very similar, though slighlty larger to Sea Lion and Polar Bear, with a reskin an a bit of adaptation, they would look right.
