Isnt there a slight problem with that? Namely that the Steam Railway only runs to Castletown, and then from Port St Mary - Port Erin (ie there is a bit missing?!?)

Yes as far as I know the Steam Railway is split in two, I was a regular visitor to the island and will not revisit until the FULL line is reopened. Does anyone know when it will????

I reached Port Erin okay - the 'missing' bit is covered by a coach, and full system should be re-opened sometime next year, hopefully in time for the start of the season.

It's just past Colby, but there is a way still to go yet. Remember, they have to dig the hole out first to put the pipe in and then relay the tracks on top.

I can see both the Groudle and the MER from my living room window. I seen No. 7 coming back in late this afternoon. We are still waiting for for the first offical run of MER No.34.

Cheers

Lol,

Yes when 34 comes out, will 7 go back onto passenger duties?

For those of you that dont know, the Snaefell replica car (built as something of an ethusiasts plaything) has been dragged into Derby Castle (Manx Electric) works and converted into the new works car, reliving the duties from a passenger car, (at the moment car 7, although for many years car 27). Car 34 will also run with the generator, (used in 1998/1999 to power tramcars on the steam railway), mounted onto it. This will allow it to be diesel powered when the electricity is off, and also be able to run compressed air tools from a compressor.
