Narrow Gauge Downloads - Clarification Requested

Post by dforrest »

There have been a lot of narrow gauge downloads recently, both stock and routes and I am confused! Could someone possibly summaries what stock is for which routes and what narrow gauge "type" they are (I believe the two types I am referring to are "x2" and "truescale")?

The haute somme route is 2x
The welshpool route is truescale but uses 3ft gauge track.

All duckweeds stock is truescale (2' 4")
SP672 's dick kerrs diesel is 2x and truescale.
Tims Irish mail is 2x

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I have not installed it yet, but I am pretty sure that it is a 3ft route and you'll need Xtrack installed to run it.

It would appear then that there is no route to run Duckweed's stock on.

Not sure what gauge Duckweeds stock is but the UKN* track on the Bala Hub is approx 2' for truescale Ffestiniog stuff. Only problem is it's just the bit around Blaenau Central.

.... and I assume from the earlier post of kevmt that duckweed's stock and (from your post) the Ffestiniog Railway Truescale stock, are 2'-4" gauge. Taking this assumption further, the only route to run this on is the NG section of Bala Hub.

Items labelled "Truescale" are intended to run on the UKN* track standard, and represent 2' stock. The UKN standard is actually about 2'4".

Items labelled UKNG or 2x are designed to run on standard track, and are doubled in all dimensions so they don't look silly.

The other set of standards runs on the Xtracks Narrow Gauge track, and is 3' gauge. The emergaing Southwold Railway, and Paul Holmes' Welshpool and Llanfair use this track.

There is currently no truescale route - but I'm working on it.

Now I am even more confused. The following is a quote from the details of the "WLLR The Countess" download:

"The loco is truescale and should be run on the W&L that can be uploaded from UK Trainsim."

I sure the quote is incorrect, the "Countess" is quite definitely built to run on XTracks 3ft gauge.

Would one of you enterprising narrow gaugers be prepared to draw up a list/table of the three narrow gauges available and the MSTS routes and stock currently available for each?

Items that I label "Truescale" are intended to run on the UKN* track standard, and represent 2' stock. The UKN standard is actually about 2'4".

Items labelled UKNG or 2x are designed to run on standard track, and are doubled in all dimensions so they don't look silly.

The other set of standards runs on the Xtracks Narrow Gauge track, and is intended to represent tracks between 2'5" and 3' gauge. Let's call this XN.

So then. Some UKNG (2x) routes:
  • Talyllyn
    Ffestiniog
    Haute Somme
Some XN routes:
  • W&L
    Southwold
Some Truescale routes:
  • The little bit in Ruabon-Bala
The SWLR (to be released in Alpha soon)
Can I propose that builders adopt this taxonomy, and update downloads accordingly?

Hello,

Just to complete the range for XTracks Narrow Gauge track, I suggest to add the meter gauge in the rane giving: between 2'5" and meter gauge called XN!

This evening, I give you some snapshot from my new route 'Warnant - Lesves' in Belgium. A meter gauge line for our vicinal Tramway!
