SMR: Moel Siabod Rack Loco Available for testing!

Post by smudge5609 »

Hi All,

Just a note to say that I have uploaded loco number 5, of the Snowdon Mountain Railway, up onto my webspace. I would appreciate any comments and/or your thoughts before I release the locomotives to the general public!

The installer will install everything in the picture below, ie one loco and one carriage! (@1.13Mb all in!). At present, the loco is only true scale and runs on the X track narrow gauge system. The reason for this is that there was some concern to how high you could go with terrain in MSTS - and so true scale, could give more height!

Download Moel Siabod (1.13Mb)

Anyway, let me know of any improvements, problems etc...

Thanks, Chris 8)

Hi All,

Thanks to all those who downloaded the test loco and gave it a spin for me! I have taken your comments in and the loco now has a head's out view and the carriage has a passenger view looking up the track - a better vantage point than the loco!

Anyway, I will release this loco and the other 3 together with the carriage in the next few days.

Thanks again

Chris :)

Nice engine, just gave it a quick blast... Are the cylinder drain cocks, exhausting in the right place? They look as if they start slightly out from the engine. It may just be me looking at it wrong though, and its no major problem if they are!

Like the look of the two veiws aswell, makes the coach a really good apckage not just another old coach lol, any change of a proper cab view to replace the scotsman one?

Hi,

Thanks for the comments again.
Yep, the cocks are slightly out from the loco, as placing them inside the running boards, made the exhaust look, well basically very triangular at some views. As for a cabview, at present I won't be building one yet. This is my first release and I don't think I have the experience to build one yet!

Next job, building 4 3/4 miles of track to the summit - something to run the locos on.

I am just finishing the installer for the locos and I will release a set of four locos and 1 carriage soon.

Cheers,

Chris

I'd like to download this, but unfortunately I'm at school
So I'll get it when I get home later. It looks GREAT!

So it's No.5 and a coach? I'm assuming that the other engine/coaches/trucks(?) will be coming out in the future 8)

BTW, did you make that track texture? It looks very realistic...I hope it's not x-tracks :-? Because I don't have any x-tracks on my computer :(

Hi All,

Yes, I'm afraid it is X track only at the moment - which is a bit limiting if you don't have x track. But it is basically prototypical gauge and the hence, that's why I've used it!

Anyway, just a note to say that I have uploaded a SMR Loco Pack, containing 4 loocos and 1 carriage.

It just has to be authorised first!

Cheers, Chris :fadein:

No. 1 must be turning in her grave!
And while I'm on the topic are you going to do No. 1? I think it would be nice to see her in steam again! **sniffs**

Poor L.A.D.A.S, spent 100 odd years down a valley just to get forgotten when she has a chance of fame again
Seriously, it would be nice to see No.1 complete the pack.

For those of you who dont know the story, No.1 LADAS, (Lady ? Duff Assherton Smith) - On the opening day, both No.1 LADAS and No.2 Enid, went with trains to the summit, however due to the weather LADAS began the journey home 1/2 an hour earlier, on reaching clogwyn station, a bell would ring at the summit and Enid would the descend. About 100 yards from Clogwyn, LADAS lost contact with the rack system, the autmoatic brake failed and she left the tracks at a point called Cwm Glas, the manager in the carriage stopped the coach within 30 yards averting a tradgey, however, on leaving the track LADAS tripped off the bell to the summit, and Enid began her descent.

The guard of LADAS, ran back to stop the crew of Enid coming down, but to little avail. One passenger died on jumpring from the carriage - Enid however, having no warning, ploughed into the back of LADAS's coaches.
LADAS herself, went over a cliff side in the collision, wrecking the engine at once. Enid was damagedbut was repaired....

So THAT'S what happened to No. 1 :(

Now for the important question.
Where can I get X-Tracks??? And if I do get it, what then? Do I convert the NG routes that I have (2X scale Ffestinog and Talyllyn routes) to X-Tracks?! :o

Or does something else happen :-? I'm confused!
