I like Russel best, although i think it looks better with the cut down cab to be honest.

I can see why people see it as a FR mistake, and I agree with them that it did to some extent ruin a historic engine (and to be fair they should have checked the width through Moelwyn Tunnel (does anyone know if it will go through today?)). However my personal opinion, is that the cut down version looked nicer than the original. Especailly with the cab backsheet removed. I know it made the engine harder to work because of headroom, however i still think that it gave a bit of contrast and added yet more variety to the life of a very unusual engine.

Russell will now fit through the New Moelwyn Tunnel, but not the Garnedd Tunnel, so it still can't work the whole FR. I know what you mean by the cut down version having its attractions, indeed its been so long since it last apeard like that, many people would like to see what it would look like. Russell begin cut down was denfintly NOT a FR mistake, for had it not been cut down, it proably wouldn't be here today. Only because the loco was powerfull, but low, was it perchased by the Hook Norton Railway in 1942. Had the FR not cut it down, it would have gone the sameway as the baldwin.
