No.2 Has to be my favorite:
partly because of her history, and the fact she saved the railway in 1951, but also because she is so controversial to work on. She can be great to clean, although a challenge and if your feelign tierd she is a struggle bacuase everything is so bloody inacessiable, her cab is slightly too low, not enough to make you always remember to duck but enought to remind you , that you should of ducked if you havnt!
And then to fire, Ive never seen an engine where the damper acts as a steam switch, she makes steam with it open, and doesnt with it shut (simple fact.) The firebox is just deep enough to be fired like 1 and 3 (sloping fire) although she often makes steam with a flat fire better! (You never know till its too late if you get it wrong
) And have also never seen an engine before, lose steam at the rate of 5 psi a min running, yet as soon as you stop it makes it back against the injector!!!
And finally you have the motion, which is *unique* to say the least...
Other than that No.6 is my favorite, because she is sooooo simple, can be cleaned in 40 mins in the morning if not too dirty and will make steam like fury when it needs too, (ohh and its driving wheels are sooooo cute aswell!!
)

No1 is my favourite because she is the oldest steam loco. I've only seen her once.
Otherwise I like No7 because 'he' is a big loco.
I hate No6 becuase it's sooo small and stupid. It's to big for it's boots (wheels) and needs to be a 2-4-2T or 2-4-0T or 0-4-2T with bigger wheels.
I've been inside No6 once it was quite small and cosy, at Abergernolwyn.
P.S>
Since you know so much about the Talyllyn; how do you pronouce Rhydryonen?

Six is an 0-4-0 cos she doesnt need trailing wheels really, it rides a little roughly but nothing too bad to be honest, unless being driving at a 'generous' 14.9 mph! . Also there is no room under her for more wheels. She is ideal though for shunting which is nice, and uses very little steam up.
Seven is a little too big in my opinion
. It doesnt need all that water capacity (can easily do Wharf - Nant - Wharf - Dolgoch on one tankfull
) and has a lot of the weight on the trailing wheels, as a result it is quite prone to slipping. (especially light engine
) It is also too powerfull to eb honest. With the regulator fully open it is still on 1st valve (we dont need the second) although i have never seen the regulator more than 1/2 open!
The other great thing about '2' is that with cylinders the size of Dustbins she will haul her train on 40 p.s.i! Or if needs be, act as a recovery engine very quickley... (6 broke her rear spring and we had 2 in steam in 45 mins, hauling out of Pendre)
Other Talyllyn names everyone gets incorrect are
Cynfal - Kun - val
Fach Goch - Vark Gork
Aberygynolwyn - Aber -g- noel - win
Dolgoch - Doll - gork
Tynllywn Hen - Tin - clue - in - hen
Then places which are not stations :
Doldeywydd - Doll - dee - hue - ith
Tan-y-Coed - Tan Coy(d) (the 'd' is very short)
Brynerewest - Bryn - eer- west

I do like no 4. I think it looks the best, and looks good in any livery it's put in.
The good think i like about the talyllyn is that there TTTE locos are the same as in the books, and not lets say a jinty repaint, cos TTTE is an E2

No.3 has always been a difficult engine to work, in the most part she is unpopular with the crews (more so than the other engines) and I know of a couple of TR people (myself inculded) who loath the engine.
She is hard to clean, can be hard to fire, and generally is just an engine which is not all that pleasant to work on, a very small, badly designed cab doesnt help, nor does complex valve gear which is in a space which makes it as hard to clean as No.2's

Rhydryonen?[/quote]
You asked the question so long ago you,ve probably forgotten - and Chris has told you the answer anyway. (It means Ash Ford).
It's normally just referred to as "Riddy" but, rest assured, my Mother-in-Law was successfully delivered when she asked for "Roddy Ridden".
"Rhodedendron" also works.
A handy phrase well worth learning in any language is"Thank you very much". In Welsh that's "diolch yn fawr" (dee-ock un vow-er).

If I hadn't already voted for Douglas, I would have voted for Sir Hayden just to annoy people
But seriously, Douglas happens to be my favorite, even though I haven't been within 100 miles of it!
I think it is a nice looking engine and from the fact that it can shunt well...(I like shunting cars)...
My only question is:
If No.3 is despised so much by all the people on the Talyllyn and almost everyone else here (including Pitley), why is it still working? Is it because they don't have an excuse to get 'im out of service for a while
