Just thought I would post for a quick round up as to where we stand with production of any narrow gauge locomotive and rolling stock resources for Railworks. I'm anticipating my current Scottish project will be ready for release by late January (barring hitches/hold-ups/distractions) and thoughts are already turning to what the next project might be.
I'm very pleased with the popularity of my Vale Of Rheidol route so I'm very much thinking another ng route could be on the cards. However I want to do something a little more expansive, even considering a representation of part of the former Yugoslavian narrow gauge as frequent visits to the Penmorfa site http://www.penmorfa.com/JZ/index.htm have left me totally fascinated by this extensive network. (Part of the Steinbeis is looking favourite).
While not looking for exact prototype models, any route based on part of this system is going to need main line locomotives with a much bigger range and hauling power than we currently have available. The only loco that comes close is the DHR one but so far as I'm aware, that still has the problem of not adding coal or water to the fire/boiler - perhaps the author can confirm if a solution is possible/likely? Likewise rolling stock, as you will see if you browse the wonderful timetable section on the Penmorfa site, many of these trains ran for journeys of many hours and were formed of suitable stock (well at least by Eastern European standards).
I could just build the route as Standard Gauge but this would diminish the result and in truth just turn into a.n.other British outline route that happens to pass through the terrain from that area. Another option is to build in Trainz (or even MSTS if I can get the RE running half decently) but Railworks is really the preferred option.
Please don't think this is a "gimmie pig" thread, but in deliberating and planning a relatively major project all information is vital in making a go/no go decision.

You go.
It's worth it, how much eastern europe have we had for Railworks

It's worth it to give it a shot yourself Vern, you get what you want.
Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
"If you build it, they will come", eh!
Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
I have never been able to get into Railworks, but I have had an interest in the narrow gauge lines in Bosnia Herzegowina for over 30 years and would do the 3D modelling on a few locos and bits of rolling stock, if someone can handle all the hard bits of getting them into the Sim. I might just make a start by finishing that kkBB Klose....
Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
Sorry for the bump, but having looked at a couple of NG prototypes as possible projects recently, it strikes me we don't seem to have advanced very far with any further NG rolling stock and motive power for Railworks.
That effectively means building in standard gauge which may cause howls of protest from the purists, or trying to coax the Corris loco's to not run out of coal or water trying to run them over distances of 20 undulating miles or more. To the best of my knowledge the DHR loco still has the problems referenced earlier.
Like I said before, not "gimmie pigging" but NG seems to have thrived quite well in MSTS and Trainz so a shame we can't get RW up to that level.

Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
I think the problem is that from the point of view of a novice it is quite a daunting task to get models into Railworks. It is very different to MSTS. However now that I have a wagon running in the sim I think I could do it again with relative ease. It is mostly about ticking the right boxes but the first time you try it you have no idea what or where the boxes are so it can be frustrating. I've to a stage now where I have a good looking wagon with working accurate couplings, dynamic numbers, shadow models and now I'm looking at adding a load. It's taken a while but I got there in the end. I may well have a go at a loco soon and would love to do a Festiniog route set in the 1880ish but finding the time to do justice would be difficult.

Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
Looking further afield there are some US examples crying out to be built e.g. D&RGW, or maybe a Shay loco which is the only way we could see something like the Uintah Railway done properly in RW.
Re: [RW] NG Loco and Rolling Stock Development
Dick Cowen built a std gauge Shay already, if you built route I'm sure he could be persuaded to do a NG one...
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.
