hi
I am a bit confused here as what to do.I have downloaded the stable version of bin example something 7 etc.As mentioned i have seen so many folk reporting errors.I want to no what files you need to keep in a safe place just in case all goes wrong as again i have seen some sites saying just keep safe the train-exe file and others saying all the files in gui and global folders to be stored. What files then does bin actually overwrite, does it actually overwrite example any of your stock, routes and your act/route editor as it does,nt really explain to well in the read me that comes with the download.I am very concerned about this but also hoping it allows u to put shapes into routes i.e west someset railway ( people on platforms ) without getting send dont send message.I have tried many locations on this route to get people on the platforms with no success.Hope someone can convince me on this and lead me in the right direction.p.s i hav,nt got the likes of trainsore or route riter, but have the upgraded version 1/4 of mst.

Hi
If you have a 'normal' MSTS installation (no mini routes, etc) and have the proper MSTS update files installed, MSTSbin will save all files it will be impacting in a new directory named MSTSBIN_BACKUP. If it finds you don't have the correct train.exe version it won't install or change anything.
Later, if you wish to uninstall or update MSTSbin using that uninstaller, all the saved original files get restored and no trace of MSTSbin will remain.
This does not in any way mean you should not be backing up all your data once in a while in case a disaster happens. Any install can go haywire and you could also have a hardware failure. With no backup available you'd probably be starting the install of many 'things' on your computer again.

Just a small addition to Gary's comprehensive reply - installing the Bin patch changes nothing in your Route or Trains folders.

Many thks for reply
I do have version 1/4 installed with routes SVR,WSR and Great-Eastern added, but i have heard it effects your route/activity editor which i believe is seperate from the main game and does it help you put shapes in routes i.e WSR that previously dont allow it i.e that dreaded send dont send after saving.Sorry for being so picky here as i heard some people saying that they are getting no change in running mst once bin is installed.

The activity and route editors are not separate from the game, they are both found in train.exe. You will only have this trouble if you use mini-routes and you start the game/editors with the MSTS program launcher.exe. Launcher.exe uses the registry to find where train.exe is found so it will always go to the installation pointed by the registry to start train.exe and if that instance doesn't have the version of bin you are expecting, it will result in some confusion.richardparker wrote:Many thks for reply

Instead, I recommend you never use launcher.exe to start either the game or any of the editors. Change your shortcuts and start the game directly:
To start the game:
"<wherever>\train.exe" [optional command line arguments]
To start the RE/AE editors:
"<wherever>\train.exe" -toolset [optional additional command line arguments]
