Can someone help? -> Creeping...

Greetings all.

During tuning for the final BETA release of the NZR F CLASS (been in BETA over a year, time it was released) I have encountered a problem.

The problem is under full braking the loco does not sit stationery, it instead 'creeps' backwards or forwards. I've been in this Train-Simming business quite a number of years now and I havnt encountered it before.

Now I know this is related directly to the MaxBrakeForce line as adjusting the value alternates the direction of the creep. I am wonderinf if anyone here has encountered this before and what they did to fix it other than trial and error adjusting the MaxBrakeForce value until it stopped.

Thanks in advance.

May be worth checking your friction values If you have -0.25 or maybe even a smaller figure, try lowering it or just use 0 this is the 2nd set of figures from the left.

Thanks I'll have a looksie and see whats going on with the friction.

Many thanks, changing the -0.25 value to 0 rectified the problem.

I have used the -0.25 value many times before, and not encountered the 'creeping'. What would cause this to occur (so I can avoid it next time, or know what caused it to happen) or is this another TS unknown?

The problem seems to happen with values above -10.... I use -10 on all my stock with no problems.. and it helps keep the values more realistic than 0..

Stefan

Take it from me that 0 is the best you start adding in that minus - what ever causes problems and it makes no difference at all to how it runs just
make sure all your stock is the same.

I am using -0.05 as the second parameter in the friction settings for my loco/wagons, which I have noticed are sometimes prone to this creeping effect. I normally jump to cab view, close my eyes and think of England when it occurs. :o

As I used FCALC to determine friction settings for all my equipment I suspect this could possibly affect quite a bit of rolling stock currently out there that calculated their values the same way.

What is the impact on the friction settings if you change this parameter to 0?

Regards,

Marek.

Impact there is no impact vehicles do not creep jump and neither does the track monitor bounce the speed up and down while standing still,
Joe's frictions values are the business without that section being changed from 0 as long as you use version 2, I think that's the windows version
as well.

Thanks for the responses. I've noted to use 0 for the second value in all future builds. I too use FCalc V2.0 - the windows one, and this is where I got the value from. Not to worry, I'll remember to use 0 from now on as that speed fliker while stationery in F4 has always had be wondering what was going on :P

No No, thank you Jon, is nice to hear some feedback once in a while. With this fix for the F Im looking to release her next week sometime. This version is much prettier than the antique version 1/1.5. Features photo textures, custom sounds, custom cab...hence the year long delay. I finished it model wise June 30th 2005, and Peter and myself have been working on tuning, sounds and cab practically ever since 8) One more thing, its not F13 anymore, had a number change and became F185, though I'm sure old Peveril will show its face again, when I get the urge to reskin and change a few model parts. Nigel has a few more passenger sets to be released soon, as he's done nearly every one already theres not much left but for some red paint, what can I say but watch the TSNZ Homepage

I've found 'creeping' occurs with ex-LMS Ivatt 46443 on the SVR addon pack. Damn annoying, every station you stop at you get a 'minor error' count saying you left before the right away.

BTW, is there any way to stop vehicles from 'bouncing'? I've found if I have a long rake of Mk1s (say 15-20) then when I stop at a station the rear 5 or so are rebounding back and forth for several seconds as if the drawbars are made of elastic! This also causes 'minor error' counts.
