Single Port Regulators

Getting the physics right is essential for the simulation, having an 0-6-0 tank engine with the hauling power of a Class 66 just ruins the fun!

Single Port Regulators

Post by andrewtoplis »

Hello Friends,

I spent two days on a Stroudley Terrier this week, and was thinking of having a little mess around with the .eng to make the MSTS version a little bit more prototypical, so, is it possible to have a single port regulator? What would I need to change in the .eng file to make it work?

Many Thanks,

Andy

RegulatorValveType( Single_port )
RegulatorPilotValveExponent( 1 )
RegulatorSecondValveExponent( 1 )
RegulatorPilotValveFullOpenning( 1 )
RegulatorMainValveInitialOpenning( 0.01 )

Try this Andrew............Rick

Andrew

You may want to take out that Pilot Valve Exponent as well.

Matloughe

Single Port means the regulator valve has 1 opening from start to finish
on a double port/twin or multiple there are valve openings that control
the amount of steam entering the steam chest so to give an even flow
and better control of power when starting away.

This is what I have been using recently with good results.

RegulatorValveType( Single_port )
RegulatorPilotValveExponent( 0.8 )
RegulatorPilotValveInitialOpening( 0.01 )
RegulatorPilotValveFullOpening( 1 )

I only use the double ported regulator on compounds which is what I believe Kuju intended in the first place.

Either Rick's arrangement or the one I use should give the the same result, however I want to test both before finally deciding.

Not that that will happen soon as I leave for UK and Norway for 5 weeks and the gods of IT no longer allow the sim on my laptop, so working remote is no longer an option.

Thanks very much Ian, I will try both and report back in a few days. Just out of interest why do you say the above? I would have thought it was fairly accurate for most engines to have a pilot/main valve distinction with one being bigger?

Kuju never had a clue about compounds or any other class take it from me as fact or any other type of valve..........Regards, Rick

Hi there,

interested in this subject i had a quick look into the specs that Supergoods posted.

I modified Stepney, the thing that i found was that she was very slow in pulling away from a station. a 3-Car A Set was the load, and from Horsted Keynes to Sheffield Park you really had to drive her to keep the speed constant; inciddentaly the speed was around the 30 mph mark rising to 40 down Freshfield Bank.

I dunno if i made the modification correctly, and would liek to know from you guys if i did if possible.

Cheers,

Rick's mod worked fine light engine, not tried it with stock yet. What did you mean by taking out the exponent, delete the line or just make it 0?
