just using the magnificent 2/3 cylinder sound sets and i gotta be honest - i have no idea what any steam engine sounds like (cept a mamod traction engine - ahh those were days) what sounds best suit the black 5's??

I guess i am missing something somewhere as i dont know what sounds to assign any of the engines. Is there a list anywhere please??

Best Regards All

Open the eng file and you will find NumCylinders=
Just use the appropriate sound files then.
If you have never heard a steam engine pulling away with a heavy consist you don't know what music is...!!!!!
Black 5 is 2 cyls.

My black 5's use the scotsman sounds but i made a copy of the Golsdorf 380 whistle and renamed it as x-fs whistle then pasted over the files in my sound folder. I know its not perfect but it does suit them better than the high pitched LNER whistle.

Yes, we need a recording of a proper Caledonian/Stanier hooter. From a black 5, Jubilee, Princess, Duchess, 8F! There are plenty around, you just need the right equipment. The earlier LMS engines followed Midland practice and had a high pitched whistle. When grouped there was a line-up of locos arranged to find a new hooter and the Caley one was chosen, but then overruled by Derby who believed that there was one way, and it was the Midland way. When Stanier came in someone at Crewe pointed this out to get one up on Derby and the Caley hooter was adopted.
