GWR Sounds on 5080

The SMS sound system in MSTS 1 has been quite well understood for some time, but there are still new things being learned as well as a wealth of information about what's already known that you can learn here.

GWR Sounds on 5080

Post by g4vvz »

Hi. I have downloaded GWR Castle 5080 and the associated GWR sound files and Cab. Sounds are great EXCEPT when the loco is running the sound of blowing off accompanies. If I let the loco blow-off then the sound goes quiet (non-blowing off) - i.e. logic seems inverted.I have tried GWR-Manor-Int-100a-01.sms and GWR-Manor-Int-100b-01.sms in the .eng file and both do the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it a problem of the sound files or the .eng file for example???

Many thanks.

By blowing off do you mean the cylinder cocks? If so then check in the .eng file that the cylinder cocks are set to be closed on start up (can't recall the statement syntax off hand, but it should be covered in the readme). The GWR Sounds require this else the cylinder cocks blowing effect will be inverted, which seems to be what you're describing.

No, 'Blowing off' = when the saftey valves open, i.e. boiler pressure is greater than maximum allowed for the loco type.

I've been testing further and sometimes it's OK, sometimes not. I can't figure that!

Hay, I've fixed it. The boiler was set to start at 235lb/in when the max was 225lb/in, so it was starting up with the valves lifted. It appears this inverted the sound like the cylinder cocks. Many thanks for the tip!!!!!!!!!

Hi
I believe this is a known MSTS bug, the Scotsman does it too.
I think there is a fix...........I can't remember it though. :(
