Class 58 Sounds?

The SMS sound system in MSTS 1 has been quite well understood for some time, but there are still new things being learned as well as a wealth of information about what's already known that you can learn here.

Class 58 Sounds?

Post by bigdaveadams1 »

Are there any custom class 58 sounds? If not could anyone suggest suitable sounds? I've done a search but no luck. Currently using class 56 sounds with an HST horn, sounds pretty good but not authentic!

Well my downloaded 58020 is aliased to a 56 soundset and 58001 which has come from a UKTS CD is aliased to a 47 soundset. Both of these are in the common.sound folders.

Can't find any dedicated 58 soundsets.

Kindest regards

Cheers John, thought I'd have found it by now after 4 years of searching! Do you by any chance have the new Thames Mersey dvd? If so do they have class 60 sounds and are they any good?

I do have the latest Thames Mersey DVD and on checking the documentation and looking at the files all the Class 60's appear to be aliased to Class 66s. Whether that is accurate I have no idea since I know very little about newer trains.

I do know when I open the throttle and the speakers are up loud SWMBO gets very annoyed she can't hear the usual rubbish she watches on the TV downstairs and the floor is gently vibrating. Pens and other small items are wandering around on the desk due to the vibrations and my daughter complains she can't sleep with that "racket" going on.

Kindest regards

I did have the 60 sounds on the Dorset V2 CD and the Thames-Mersey V3 CD, but because of a copyright dispute I had to remove them and alias the 60's to the Class 66 sounds.

Cheers Dave, is there anyway of getting hold of the 60 sounds or have these been lost forever? Sorry but I'm just one of those who hates having the perfect route, the perfect cabview and then listening to a GP38! Oh well, looks like it'll have to be 56s and 37s off Eastleigh with the Carlisle Enterprise. Quality routes Dave, can't tell you how much I enjoy them.

There are those class 58 sounds on the EB Stock Pack but can't remember whether they were any good or not.

Sorry Jon for bringing it up again, it had started as a class 58 question but I take your point.

Does anyone know how authentic the EB loco pack sounds are?

Hi
No worries topics tend to drift a little on UKTS.........

........... just thought I'd mention a new set of sounds on

http://www.train-sim.com

"EMD 645F-16T sound pack by Anthony Wood of Midwest Locomotive Works, Audio Division (bnsf_dude)
This pack Contains 1 horn 1 bell all engine and dynamic/air brake sounds.
This set is meant for any 645 powered EMD in general but the 645F-16T was in newer -2 type locomotives.
I.E SD40-2, GP40-2. But will Work with any turbocharged EMD locomotives except for the GP30-35 as they are powered by a 567T-16"

I think thats the engine in the Class 57s.......... but I could be wrong.

Cheers

Also fitted to the 59s. However a 57 and 59 sound nothing like each other! A 59 yings, and you tend to feel the sound more than hear it, but a 57 screams - literally!

cheers

The class 58 that I have from the North West England route is linked up to the Class 56 sounds in the common.sound folder and if I am correct. Didn't the Class 56 and the 58 have the same powerplant?

In terms of the Class 60's, I have linked all mine that I have downloaded and my reskins to the Class 56 sounds as well because I think they are the only sutable sounds I could find to link my Class 60 repaints to. I know they are not prototypical hence that Class 60's never had Paxman engines in them. They were Mirlees Blackstone engines if I am correct? Or am I thinking of another Locomotive?

Anyway, The class 56 sounds are far more British-sounding than that of a GP30 (Or whatever it is) and the Dash 9 also. I am (slowly) learning on how the .sms files work gradually and there is loads of Class 60 videos outthere on youtube. So maybe I could try and make a sound mod for the Class 60 using the sound from the youtube videos by extracting the sound from them if I can get permission from the authors of their uploaded videos first. Because the sound recorded on videos off my mobile phone is often "cloudy" or distorted. Here is a perfect example of my video of a Class 153 at Spalding that I filmed with my phone. If you listen to the sound then you will see what I mean .

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pzbyCJZE6pI

If permission is refused then I will try and make a fictional sound set that alias the sounds to the default Dash 9, GP30 and SD40 for the engine revs, Kiha 31 and the Series 2000 for the control and switch sounds. I may use the Acela for the braking noises and the Class 50 for the Horn. It will be similar to my "HST MTU Sound Mod" but you won't need to download any additional sound sets this time as you will (or should) have these sound files already
