Exhauster/compressor doesn't play!!

The SMS sound system in MSTS 1 has been quite well understood for some time, but there are still new things being learned as well as a wealth of information about what's already known that you can learn here.

Exhauster/compressor doesn't play!!

Post by ntanswell »

This has been bugging me for a awful long time now, when i take the train brakes off on a diesel the Exhauster/compressor sound doesnt play, even if i slam the brakes off from emergency :x . The Exhauster/Compressor sound is present in the SOUND folder and in the line for it is is the eng file but it just doesn't seem to trigger :-? . This happens with all the sound sets i have tried, Kiegills Class 20, Ult 37, Ult Whistler and all the ELR soundsets, please help!!

Hi
Its usually because there is a big reservoir, and small cylinders.
If you edit the eng file from

AirBrakesAirUsedPerPoundsOfBrakePipePressure( 0.22 )

to

AirBrakesAirUsedPerPoundsOfBrakePipePressure( 1.22 )

You should hear the compressor....be aware though this will exhaust more air of course...so multiple applications become more difficult (like on the real things)

Cheers

Thanks John, excellent it works perfectly, it was so odd before without the compressor sound, i am using my recording of a 37s compressor for my locos. Only a slight hitch, your fix doesnt work on any of the locos in the ELR pack. Also, it is possibly to get the exhauster to sound on vacuum braked diesels, e.g the West Somerset Hymek and the SVR Western.

Hi Jon

I am starting to the learn the odd bugs in MSTS now, its a shame about that as vacuum brakes are common on older diesels and most of the mk1 stock in the libary is vac brake. MSTS doen't understand much does it. My compressor sound, recorded on a 30 year old dictophone isn't very good either, it sounded good on the dictophones speaker, i don't know about the dictophone but the fact i recorded it onto the PC with the microphone in the top of my PC monitor probably has something to do with it! I have good access to the sound sources so maybe when i can afford some decent digital kit, i will record again. Sorry about that. I am using the compressor sound from the WSR hymek in MSTS, its very good as are all Railwaves products.
