sensativeity on the space bar for whistles

The SMS sound system in MSTS 1 has been quite well understood for some time, but there are still new things being learned as well as a wealth of information about what's already known that you can learn here.

Hi, Davvydo,
I think you'd have to have a whistle recorded like that, playing a tune, someone might do it for you. MSTS can only play wave files, which are recorded samples of sound i.e whistle or diesel horns.
Real train whistles work by steam bieng forced through a valve which makes a sound, bit like blowing through a trumpet. The driver can manipulate the pressure going through the valve with the whistle cord to create different 'notes'.

With a correctly edited sms file and another wav set up, you can use the B key which usually operates a bell to play a different note on the whistle. People on here have been discussing using the B key to play a BR 2-tone diesel horn but it can be used to play a sort-of tune on a steamer whistle.

I use the long space bar whistle to sound warnings and the short blip note from the B key to 'talk' to signalmen, etc.

Yes, it would be nice if someone with a sound recorder could get a driver to 'play' a tune and this .wav could possibly be played with the B key? It's whatever does it for you, init.

Maybe have a search through the sounds section in the download area to see if anyone has already made some whistles that play tunes? As far as I'm aware you can only play play two wave files ( sound Recordings ) on the key board, space bar and B key? I can tell you how to set up the B key to play a sound if you wish.

Hi
You can set the spacebar to play different wave sounds...but only one at a time and then only randomly

ie 3 different whistles....and you get 1 of the 3 each time.

So unfortunately still not the tune you require.
