Two Tone Horn Sounds

The SMS sound system in MSTS 1 has been quite well understood for some time, but there are still new things being learned as well as a wealth of information about what's already known that you can learn here.

Two Tone Horn Sounds

Post by nelson »

Is anyone interested in more realistic two tone horn sounds, using the space bar and B key? I am uploading a set for the Class 37 primarily, but they can be used for any train if you are competent enough to edit the SMS files.
For this set you need Bob Potts class 37 sounds ( File ID 4660 ) installed for it to work properly. I took the low horn sound from the origional, put it through a program called Wavepad and took the pitch up a couple of notches to produce a high tone horn, which replaces the origional B key sound. Use in any sequence, i.e; High-Low-High, Low-High, Low-High-Low, High-Low, Single Blast, whatever.
It came out alright I think, sent a copy to Bob and he liked them.
I got Bob's permission to upload.
My file ID will be 10623

Horns for the class 60, 56, 43, 91 and the class 92 would be perfect mate :). I did include a beta horn with my class 60 sounds because i was unhappy with muffle and crackle when i placed my microphone near the class 60 horn cones to achieve maximum amplify :-?. So i use richards class 60 horn with my sounds instead :). That class 37 horn is great mate by the way :). Looking forward to more horn sets from you in the near future :wink:.

cheers

I'll see what I can do, just got the basic horn sounds for now, possibly be able to up or lower the pitch to suit different trains ok. The important thing is the SMS files, the horns will work with any train if the SMS file is edited something like this:

Cab.SMS:
Stream (
Skip ( **** This stream allows the horn to be played at the same time **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Triggers ( 1
Discrete_Trigger ( 8 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "d9_horn1.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
)
)

Stream (
Skip ( **** This stream allows the horn to be played at the same time **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Triggers ( 1
Discrete_Trigger ( 10 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "d9_horn2.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
)
)

Eng.SMS
Stream (
Skip ( **** This stream allows the horn to be played at the same time **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Triggers ( 1
Discrete_Trigger ( 8 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "x_d9_horn1.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
)
)
Stream (
Skip ( **** This stream allows the horn to be played at the same time **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Volume(0.5)
Triggers ( 1
Discrete_Trigger ( 10 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "x_d9_horn2.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
)
)

But i do not see how the horn can be used with a different array of trains, as each train has a different horn sound?

Yes Pete, exactly my point, they have different pitch sounds, I would just use the horn sounds I've got and change the pitch as close as I can get with the sound program I use, Wavepad.
Might work. All british trains have two tone horns I believe with slightly different sounds.
