Night Cab Timing

Cabs in MSTS are based on three 2D images (left, front and right) along with some flicker-book style animated graphics to allow the controls to appear to move. Some amazing results can be achieved when you learn how to do it properly though!

Night Cab Timing

Post by rfletcher72 »

Dear all,

Is there any way to influence the actual time when cab views switch to the night view?

For example, I have a cab view that switches to night view at a seemingly arbitary time of 2236, long after the actual route 'goes dark'. Can this time be altered to suit preferences?

I have looked at the .cvf file but can spot nothing obvious :(

Hi Richard,
That's a very interesting question :) 8)
I haven't checked it out myself, but 'night time' is defined by some entries in the route's .env file/s, although I would have thought the time the route goes dark will be controlled by the same entries, but we are talking about MSTS :o :-?
Have a look at the second post here : http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/archive/in ... 11838.html

Cheers,
Ged

EDIT : Having a Google around reveals many fleeting references to this problem, but the most important being that Route Riter can set the appropriate sunrise/sunset times for each month based on the lat/long of the route. Again, I have not tested it, so don't know if it answers your question!

Hi Ged,

Thanks for the reply.

I think this question is one of those good old MSTS questions which do not have an easy answer. I am reluctant to delve into .env files in case I mess something up. Logic would suggest that sunrise / sunset times for a route would have an effect on the night cab views, but experience shows this is not the case :-?

Thanks again,
Richard

The sunset times should be the only entry to switch over to night time views. What route and season is this happening on?

Thanks

The sun is set at 22.34 in the summer ENV file, so the night cab is performing correctly. The sky is light orange, but the scenery is a tad darker than it should be when comparing the brightness and colour of the sky.
All normal for MSTS.

Thanks
