Speed limit oddity - West Highland

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Speed limit oddity - West Highland

Post by Optrex »

Hi all,

My first real post round here, so please be gentle! :)

After ignoring the monster that is the Activity editor for about a year now, I decided I'd dust it off and have a go. And bejazus, what an irritating piece of poorly presented tosh it is! Nevertheless, I battled with it and managed to produce my first activity for Vern's excellent West Highland route. It got a bit messy, but at least I was able to grasp the concepts. Started a 'proper' activity today and managed to get it all working brilliantly...

..apart from the speed limit!

Let me explain how the activity works; you arrive in a Class 37 at Glenfinnan to rescue a failed train. After another service train passes, you roll out of the loop and back onto the train and the general idea is to get it to Mallaig.

But an odd thing happens once I leave the station loop, past the 15mph limit. The speed limit says 30mph, the track monitor shows a 30mph limit ahead, but MSTS insists that it's really a 20mph limit! Arrrgh! The WHL extension is slow enough at 30mph, I can't imagine anyone having the patience to suffer a 20mph run!

Does anyone have any insights into this random behaviour?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

It's the route restricted speed, which for some reason MTS appears to be enforcing.

Thanks Vern.

Don't you just love MSTS!

As I said on the Crotrainz Forum, I've spent two days on this one issue and have got nowhere, so I'm starting a simpler activity instead.

Not sure why this happens; anything that involved reversing into the loop to pick up the failed train caused this, whereas reversing onto the consist on the other platform didn't cause the issue, but it sort of blocked the sidings a bit, which I needed for dropping off a few wagons.

Ah well, I shall start afresh. Next weekend!
