Slight change of plan to this activity,I have decided to split it into 2 parts.
Part 1 will run from Bristol to Plymouth calling Exeter only
Part 2 will complete the service from Plymouth to Newquay.
This is because I feel that maybe 4 hours is a bit too long to be driving, also by splitting it up allows me to regulate the ai traffic correctly

I'd say that AI traffic is not an issue with long activities.INTERCITY wrote:by splitting it up allows me to regulate the ai traffic correctly
With my activities, I tend to run the activity and see what time I pass through various locations. I then go back to the timetables and add in AI traffic based on that - with services starting shortly before I'm due to see them, and then ending a little while afterwards.

No,you're right really,it doesn't,I felt that especially when testing that 4 hours is a long time, and when you get on the Newquay branch and find you want to change something it's a long time to get back there to see what effect it's had.gswindale wrote:I'd say that AI traffic is not an issue with long activities.INTERCITY wrote:by splitting it up allows me to regulate the ai traffic correctly

The other thing is the timings this train was given over an hour to run non-stop to Plymouth which even at 60 mph maximum you find yourself getting to Plymouth 15 minutes early,I did put an AI train ahead(1156 Totnes to St Austell) which was booked to depart Plymouth at 1228,of course as we all now MSTS ai stock don't like bends or hills so I ended up catching it up on approach to Plymouth.
I tend these days with AI traffic to take them from the real timetable and work out where I expect to pass them but give it a long path for instance, passing the Cornish Riviera HST at Exeter I ran the path from Dawlish(11,31 departure) to Cowley Bridge junction,so there was no danger of me missing it.
I think the two parts may work better,I still have the whole activity so if enough people would prefer the 4 hour version then I will add that to.
Who knows might do a whole run from St Erth to St Ives next

Re: Summer Saturday to Newquay
The best way around this is to create a mini activity that covers the portion of the bigger activity that you want to test. You can easily do this by copying the main activity and then templating the player service. This templated service can then be given a path starting from the point you wish to test from. All you now need to do is change the start time of the mini activity to match the time you know that your player will reach the "new" start point. No,you're right really,it doesn't,I felt that especially when testing that 4 hours is a long time, and when you get on the Newquay branch and find you want to change something it's a long time to get back there to see what effect it's had.
I have used this approach to create a 10 hour activity for MEP (but it will also be available in 3 smaller chunks for people with more sense).
