Activity/Consist Creator Crashing

Been having fun recently creating various activities (don't we all??). Now for some reason known only to itself, when I go to create a new consist (dislike that word!) each time I select 'Diesel' from the drop-down list AE crashes out with no warning at all.
Is use the sim in 16bit colour (as per previous posts). Although I think this may not be related.
Please can someone point me in the right direction for getting this problem resolved rather than uninstalling/reinstalling simulator and pulling out all my hair at the same time.

Apart from the 16-bit thing, it could also be a faulty loco. Have you installed any new diesel locos? If so look at the diesels you have installed after it was working fine (located at Program Files/Microsoft Games/TRAINS/TRAINSET), and take the folder out to a temporary location (IE desktop) and try again, if it still crashes, try another recent loco installed and try again until it does work, then you know which loco is causing the problem. It might not be the problem, but it's worth a try, and it's a problem I had once with a Class 52. I did the same as above and I found the fouling 52, took it out, and it worked.

Hope this helps,

James.

Hi Soulie,

You may be running the SIM at 16 bit, but have you re-set your Graphics card to 1024x768 16bit before running AE?

It could also be an item of faulty Rolling Stock you have installed.

EDIT: James you beat me to it.

In my case I even can't set the screen to 1024x768 because I use a 24" Imac. And guess what... MSTS runs perfectly on a Mac... even better then on my PC with a 512MB Graphical engine inside. The only solution wich works the best for me in Activity creator is to save after every few tweaks. For me activity creator can be a real burden. But the benefits with MSTS on a Mac compared to a windows build PC are enourmous, so I learned to live with it.

Did you check what your Graphics card was set to?

It's a faulty shape file.

MSTS is unable to create the thumbnail picture in the editor and crashes.

Open the Trainset folder window and click on the Date Modified column header to sort in date order.
Move this weeks folders into a temporary folder and try the editor again.
If it works the faulty loco is in the temp folder.
If it crashes move another weeks stuff and try again.

When you have the faulty loco in the temporary folder, move the diesels back again one at a time until you find the faulty one.

Then come back here with the folder name and we'll check it out.

I have tried all of the above, I am now about halfway through my trainset list.... and loosing patience! I think I am going to dump the contents of the folder entirely and start afresh. Al least I can clear some of the superseeded models that way too.

I have noticed that shapeviewer is playing havic too so I think that this may well be the cause.

On another note, when activity editor is unning again, anyone fancy some 'up-to-date' acts for BrisCard? Let me know any idea's too if there is anything specific too. Also, I have created some sounds for bogie wagon stock.

Hi Soulie,

Have you upgraded your Graphics Card Drivers recently? This can cause problems with Shape Viewer, etc.

Nope, I've got a G-force 7300GT card installed and this has given me no problems on any games.
