Automatic calculation of times in Activity Editor

Does anyone know this - I cannot find it on forum. You have created an activity - say Settle to Carlisle and the edit timetable has given you some timings. I find these are generally quite generous on long stretches even at up to 100 on the performance %.
Quite sensibly these timing also vary if you change the consist - so for example an old DMU (ex Cambrian Coast) takes longer than a class 50 plus five coaches. This suggests that the editor is reading some data from the trainset but I have been unable to establish what this might be.
Does anyone know what data the editor is reading to make its initial calculation of the timetable? If this can be tweaked I can run at nearer the line maximum for a change - or at least use fourth gear!!!

its using the performance rating in the player consist, which you can tweak to adjust timings, but why not just enter the timings you want instead. Click edit timetable, double click on each station in turn, the first box which opens says Enter Arrival Time but this is INCORRECT. The first time you enter anything it becomes the DEPARTURE time. So enter the desired departure time for that station and click ok. Now double click it again and NOW enter the the arrival time.

You cannot bring forward a departure time, you can only make it later. If you need to bring the departure time forward untick the station stop in the editor and save the activity, then reopen the activity, re-tick the station stop and the time will now show 0:00 and you can now set the desired departure time.

Thanks for the info on entering times - I will try it - but I still think the initial caclulation is based on more than just performance figures - something identifies a different set of times for different locos

Its the whole consist which alters the timings, not just the loco. If you change the construction of the consist, make it longer or shorter, change the loco etc., the timings will change. The service file probably reads in data from the con file and then applies the performance factor to it. But as I said, its not worth bothering about how it does it or why when its so easy to set the times you want yourself. The automatic calculation never works correctly.

I agree - changing carriages etc alters timings - probably picks up more passengers - but also adds weight etc. However even with two light engines you get two different times - and i'm intrigued as to what parameters affect this - I've tried tweaking in the eng files but it does not seem to make a difference in the calculation though it does in the game play.

Even if I use 100 performance I cannot go at full line speed for say 50 miles or so without getting to far ahead of timetable - though performance changing is really useful

Building a test track to check this in more detail - are we all mad?
