Timetables

Post by RichPayne »

Hi all,

Just a quick question... Where could I find BR timetables for the WCML and Dorset Coast? Id like to put together some accurate activities, but am struggling to get the schedules right. Would I have to pay for this stuff or is it available freely?

Thanks in advance

The National Rail Timetable book is published each year at a cost of about £12. It has every timetable for every service in the UK, including some of the preserved lines. I buy a copy every couple of years and its well worth the cost. Otherwise you can get some information on the web - im sure others will post links they use :)

The current National Rail Timetable book is likely to be the last edition to be published because people can get all of the timetables off the internet, so it's not seen as very cost effective anymore. :(

I must dash out and buy another copy then :) i find it invaluable.
The internet is fine if you are looking for a particular train, but i dont know of any sites which would give you all the departures / arrivals at a particular station over 24 hours on a couple of pages :(

Maybe someone will enlighten me if there is such a site :)

Ah well - thats a different question altogether :( Im not aware of any sites which have this information. You may be able to pick up a second hand working timetable book if you scour the secondhand bookshops - especially on preserved lines. I usually just use the current timetable though - even for old services as i dont think they have changed a great deal (except maybe some services have got quicker, but many haven't )

I that would be the case - both about the information and the lack of improvement in the timetable   Thanks very much for the advice though

Try the German site.

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

It can give intermediate times.
