Caledonian Sleeper
Does anyone have any idea of what formations are used on the Scotrail sleeper trains from Euston. I am working on a set of activities and want to get it fairly accurate.
May Thanks.

Mark 2 daytime stock with Mk3 sleeper cars hauled usually by an EWS Class 90. In what quantities i couldnt say; but I often see the Scotrail sleeper pass through Berkhamsted on my way to work. Im starting at 7 tommorow morning, so every chance Ill see it. if not I'll drive out and see the 23:55 return tommorow night and take a note of the formation. Would that help?

There was a thread on the Real Railway forum discussing it, which got onto formations:

The main (Fort William/Aberdeen/Inverness) one seems to be, from Euston:
6xSLE, Lounge, BSO, 6xSLE, Lounge, BSO.
Dunno about the Euston/Glasgow one. Similar possibly, although maybe it's shorter.

Well I did leave the scene for a while, but have been attracted back by some of the great routes and add-on which have appeared in my absence! There are a couple of other things above the sleeper activities, but they will be done fairly soon.
One other thing....can anyone help me with traffic patterns for the outward leg of the sleeper services, and for that matter the inbound as I am having a little difficulty working out what traffic (except passengers I can do that from public timetables) is around at that time of day - especially since I an an East Coast rather than West Coast man.

Hi all,
The sleeper formations are:
Fort Willam-Edinburgh 2xMK2 , 2xMK3
Inverness-Edinburgh 2xMK2 , 6xMK3
Aberdeen-Edinburgh 2xMK2 , 4xMK3
Edinburgh-Euston:(The Lowlander)
Made up of Fort William to Edinburgh, Inverness-Edinburgh, Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Edinburgh(2xMK2 4xMK3) Portions.
These then join Glasgow portion of the sleeper at Carstairs which is made up of 2xMK2 and 4xMK3 and onto Euston.
Hope This helps
Cheers!

Isn't that 30 coaches? Even taking into account the 2 Fort William Mk2 coaches added (down) and removed (up) at Edinburgh, that's a pretty long train...
As I understand it, the Glasgow/Edinburgh one is a separate service, leaving Euston later. The other one stops at Edinburgh to pick up (down) and set down (up) only, and also to join/split its sections.
