Trains invisible on route when testing activities

 Hello everybody
Could someone explain (and solve) the problem I recently encountered : using MSTS Mode Editor, when I test an activity in accelerated conditions I can no longer "see" the trains (static, driven or traffic) on the tracks : the process seems to work (signals changing) but the green dots and the "caterpillars" behind are no longer here. Besides, of course, when I place a static rake, I can't see it, verify its direction and position. Could I have made a wrong click or is it a bug ? How to eliminate it ?
Thank you in advance... and Merry Christmas.

this is due to corruption of the hwrenderer keys in the registry. If you run regedit and do a search for hwrenderer, look for keys starting AE. Delete all those and restart the editor and they will be recreated and it should now work ok. :)

Editing the registry is the way I prefer to use to fix this problem, but if you're scared about regedit, there is a small patch program (somewhere on this site) which will do the job for you. (Personally I prefer to see EXACTLY what I'm doing to my registry myself). If you search these forums for hwrenderer you will probably find reference to the patch.

Open regedit at the run command and follow the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Microsoft Games/Train Simulator/1.0/HWRenderer and in the right hand pain delete the key AE_Normal_View and all should be well. In fact I've always deleted all the keys beginning with AE with no problem at all.

When you have fixed it, it's very useful to save the MSTS bit of the registry by exporting it to a location you can remember. I do it to the desktop so that the next time the AE crashes all you have to do is click on the exported TrainSim registry and the AE is fixed. It also has the great benefit of making it very simple to get TrainSim up and running on a new PC or a new hard drive (location/path needs to be the same for simplicity). Provided you have your Train Simulator folder intact and everything is unstored from Train Store all you have to do is import the registry by double clicking and you are away. It often saves any need to reinstall. I've done it several times.

Hi Guys.
Is it essential that the file (AE_Normal_View ) is deleted, it is in my registry and MSTS is working normally excepf for stupid frame rates.

Cheers.
Alan.

AE_Normal_View is re-created if you delete it, so don't worry about it. It only needs deleting and remaking if it causes AE problems.

It's not essential that you delete it, except when you have a problem with the AE. I f you have no difficulties you can happily leave it where it is! If you can't see your static consists or AE train movement etc you will need to delete it.
