My London - Southampton Activity

Post by trains2 »

Hi guys,

i was getting very curious about an activity i uploaded a while ago for L-S. I'm curious because i have avery positive feeling that it doesn't work!

i'll explain:

Because i like to have all my files nice and neat in my TrainSim/Trains directory, i've renamed them to something suitable, e.g. instead of '43003', it would say 'FGW Class 43003', or instead or 'JTCWR' or wotever, it would say 'EWS Class 66078', so evrything is alphabetical and easy to find. Now i know that doing this means i cannot play activities that i have downloaded because the stock names do not match, and i think i can only fix it with Route_Riter.

Therefore if i cannot play downloaded activities, i cannot surely upload my activities that refer to my names to the site, and then for other people to download, all the names would be wrong, am i correct?????

Using RR would fix it i think but other than that, is there a way that i can overcome this.

Also, if you have downloaded the activity in question, '0836 SWT Brighton - Reading', plz could you tell me if the above information is correct and i have infact caused a lot of frustration with your Trainset/Trains - sorry

Thanks a lot

Um... yes, I think you're right. Maybe. Sort of.
I don't have the activity because I don't have the route - and I don't have the route because I don't like thirdrail Southern electrics; I like kettles. In East Anglia; or the East Midlands.

But I'll try to give you an informed opinion.

Basically, if you've renamed everything you've downloaded, then using the renamed stock in an activity will cause enormous problems for those who haven't renamed them exactly the same way.

Remember too, that renaming isn't just a case of changing a file or folder name - there are several references in the.eng file, the .wag, .s, and .sd files which might need changing to suit.
If you have room, I'd suggest two separate folders for TrainSim, one with the renamed stock and one for 'original' names. You'll still have a lot of conversion to do, but you brought that on yourself; at least everyone else will have activities they can use.

Cheers for that.

A second folder sounds like a grand idea, but considering i have'nt much space left i think i'd better wait till i get my own pc. Considering wot u have said, do u think it is wise to delete the activity from UKTS knowing that its causing problems?? I think it would be best unless someone else can get in here with a different opinion soon. i won't delete it yet incase someone else does have something else to say.

I don't know it's been causing problems - I just think it's highly likely.

It's a toss-up between deleting it, or rewriting it using the 'stock' names. Wait a few days and see if anyone grumbles, and you'll have a better idea. If there's not been too many downloads by this time, it'll give you some idea, too.

i think if you've had 116 downloads and not a complaint i wouldn't worry too much. Maybe people have realised what you've done and found ways around it. I find people are very quick to shout if they cant get something to work.

Mind you, speaking personally, i usually just dump it in the recycle bin :(
