Is anyone else getting an immediate "Activity Completed" when trying to leave the siding? I opened the activity in the AE and discovered that the Activity Completed area on the adjacent siding encompassed the starting siding which caused the premature ending. I moved the circle closer to the entrance and reduced it's dimensions from 10 meters to 7 which solved the problem.

Rescue Log Train Problem on West Highland 2
Within earshot of one of the few places in Canada where the CP and CN mainlines run side by side.

Well Simon, you're going to have to do the unthinkable and open the activity in the AE.
After doing so, expand the starting area of the map and make sure you open the Tools (menu bar) and click "Verify Starting State." After this you will see the starting loco on its siding and the End Activity circle should be visible on the ajacent siding. Grab the circle and pull it forward towards the points and away from the starting loco. You can also right click the activity circle and reduce it's zone which I did to 7 meters from 10.
Now you're good to go.
