Activities and the "MSTS has encountered a problem"

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Activities and the "MSTS has encountered a problem"

Post by sddsddean »

Has anyone else had the above problem? I've had it on about 6 activities over the last few months. MSTS is about quarter to half through loading an activity, when the "MSTS has encountered a problem" window comes up, you click 'Don't send' and MSTS logs out. Latest one for me is the Banker activity for NWE. Obviously other people can use the activity no problem, just wondered if it happens to anyone else and any suggestions for getting round it.

Hi
Loads of things can go wrong.....lack of Win resorces is the main one....check out the thread on stuttering...for some good info.
I am assuming you have checked the activity with route riter etc. :-?

To be honest, no I haven't. I would have thought the sort of things RR would pick up (missing wagons etc) would only cause MSTS to pop up one of those 'Error: continue?' windows. I'll check it out and see if anything happens

If any of the stock used in these activities has a problem, it can have that effect.

I've checked it with RouteRiter (and the other activities I have the same problem with) and they all come out OK; no red boxes. Any ideas what to do next?

I can't redo the paths 'cos the Activity Editor throws up the 'problem' window as soon as I select the activity. I use Train Store, so I don't think the consist limit is a problem. I have tried saying 'yes' and 'no' to overwriting paths, consists etc when installing the activity. I am now out of ideas. Anyone else got any?

Same thing happened to me.... could never get the NWE Banana activity to load Both RR and Activity Analyser reported all Hunky-Dory! All other NWE activites have loaded fine.
Still can't suss it... even went as far as moving my 'Trains' folder to a temp. location. and creating a 'new' one, just containing the stock and consists (and aliases) needed for that particular activity. Now just resigned myself to it being one of those MSTS moments sent by Mr Gates on a regular basis to annoy all and sundry! :2gunfire:

There is probably something wrong inside a eng file. This has happened to me. Sometimes I get the message, sometimes I don't.

I'll try downloading it again to see if that makes any difference, otherwise I'll just have to give up!

A new turn of events! Tried loading 'The Long Drag pt1'. Not only does the 'problem' window come up, but it won't let me do anything else with MSTS; it just comes on half way through start up. Its OK if I deselect NWE in Train Store. So I thinks, delete NWE from 'Routes' and replace it with a copy I made when I first got the route. No, that don't work. So it appears, to use the route at all, I'll have to do a complete MSTS reinstall. Well thats my weekend; what is everyone else doing!!??

Im planning on uploading a Class 180 Adelante activity ive been working on for the L2B route and also doing two more to make a set of three.

The 1st, which is actually a rehash of the 09:32 activity I uploaded a while ago, but with the consist changed should be available Saturday night or Sunday. the other two which will be completely new, maybe Tuesday.

Hi

Try a good old fashioned uninstall and reinstall the route and see if that helps, when I first installed the route I had endless crashes (send to coventry- dont send to coventry) and couldnt write an activity with more than 4 stops, in addition to this I suffered white outs and derailments so a clean install was on the cards, this cured my particular problems and I havent stopped playing NWE since ! :D

I thought my problems possibly stemmed from running a low spec pc but the above did it for me.

Cheers

Andy

PS: I did a complete MSTS uninstall/reinstall then reinstalled NWE
PPS: As Ca55ie (another member) once said theres nothing like a good old complete reinstall !
