NWE Dobbs Brow??

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

NWE Dobbs Brow??

Post by rdawes »

I just ran the above activity.

I stopped at Salford and got an "Activity Complete" message and then in the activity report it commented that I had successfully stopped at all stations and that I had missed one station. So what goes?

????? Sorry you're having a problem there, Bob. :-?

I didn't put an 'activity complete' window at Salford when I wrote it, and I can't think of any reason why such a window could appear - it certainly didn't appear in testing and no one else has mentioned it to me. In fact, there's no message window at Salford at all as far as I can recall. I'm away from my home PC so I can't look into this now - has this happened just the once, or does it complete there every time? Have you run through the sim in Activity Editor?

It ran fine for me when I beta-tested it... But saying that, I have had problems with some activites, when others haven't :(

I definately got an activity complete but then I'm beginning to wonder if I missed Salford although I'm sure that's the station I was stopping at although my skill with steam engines is limited. It certainly was in the Station Monitor anyway. I will run it again today and see if I can repeat the problem.

Ah...., there are two stations at Salford... Central, and Crescent. This activity calls for you to stop at Salford Central (the first station you come to after leaving Manchester Victoria)

Oops!

That explains why I couldn't find Salford on the map "just outside of Preston" which is what I believe the Station Monitor was telling me. Now I see the S. and SC. near Manchester and realize that I must have blown through Salford while I was still trying to get the regulator and reverser tuned properly. It's funny though that the distances in the Station Monitor didn't display as minuses the way they normally do when you miss a stop. Also, the final report was ambiguous with the "you successfully stopped at all stations" and "you missed one station."

Will try it again tonight.

Phew! I'll not not put the PC through the window tonight then...

The activity calls for a stop at the first station out of Manchester Victoria, only a couple of minutes away, and then non-stop to Preston. This seems odd but is historically accurate - Salford was (is) a handy station for commuters working in the financial district of Manchester.

Don't chuck the computer out. It was my fault.

There is a red signal just past Salford and I was concentrating so much on getting the beast stopped that I missed the station but since I stoped at the signal my station monitor reset and I just assumed that the next stop was Salford when it was actually Preston. That's the trouble with running trains in unfamiliar territory.

I did it properly tonight and, of course, the red turned to green while I was stopped at Salford just like it was supposed to.

Sorry for the upset.
