Thoughts on Activities for NWE

Hi, I have an idea for two activities to run on Terry Cunliffe`s excellent NWE route. As I am useless at making activities I would have to rely on the more talented members of this fourm!

It would be a Virgin London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street return using a Virgin Class 87.

As Lime Street is a terminus, the incomming locomotive will be up against the buffers when it arrives, so for the return journey you would need to use a 2nd 87 at the other end of the train to take it out again.

What I would like to do would be to start the 2nd activity by having to run the 2nd 87 from a say a siding onto the platform that the incoming train stands at and then couple up the 2nd 87 and then uncouple the 1st 87 and the take the train out back to London.

Does this sound feasible? Or am I talking rubbish again?

Thanks,

Tony.

You won't need a second 87 because you should have a DVT (Driving Van Trailer) on the rear of your train going to Liverpool and on the front on the return journey. The DVT powers the loco which is at the rear of the train through jumper cables throughout the train (push/pull).
On the other course you could have a DVT shortage or the DVT could have summit like an AWS fault!

NWE doesn't include much of the Liverpool - Crewe line though, only as far as Ditton. You're better off using Merseyside railways.

Agreed,
But a NWE 'slant' on a similar activity could be "due to a de-railment at Ditton" all S bound services are diverted via Earlestown. This would mean a 'tow' from, say, a class 47 to Earlestown S junction. The class 47 could then reverse around the wye and pick up the Liverpool bound service from around Newton-le-Willows and take it back to Lime st.
The second part of the activity could see the 1st class 87 proceed to Acton Grange under its own power.
Sigh!... If only I could write activities!
Cheers,
Terry

I am creating a second freight activity for this route. but the biggest amount of activity creators seems to go for passenger activitys, reason being I dont know. But it would be nice if there was a more even split
Just a comment.

I agree. I think I'll have a bash at a steam-era freight activity at the weekend. Any takers to test?

Any activities are great for NWE - I personally prefer freight activities but as you say there are more passanger ones at the moment..

Thanks for your first activity and looking forward to the second :D

Not so interested in Steam-era stuff - but I'll try anything once! :D

I'm waiting to see someone write an activity for my banana vans.
They ran as express goods from the docks and usually had a passenger loco for steam heating.

They were tightly timed to get to the city markets quickly.

Im loving this line :)

As a newcomer to SMTS I'm still in the process of installing new activities. Just keep them coming freight or passenger I'm not bothered (anything but steam at the moment as I havent quite mastered that yet :( )
