Coupling up Problems

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Coupling up Problems

Post by NeutronIC »

Hullo all,

What's the fix for when you either find it hard or impossible to couple up to something in an activity - the bounding box (CTRL +) looks ok to me but I need to really bang in to the stock to couple. Invariably it *will* couple but it usually takes 5mph and a notch of throttle so it's not advisable :)

What should the bounding box look like? Snug with the model, inside the model, a gap around the model? How about the couplings themselves, do they particularly need to be positioned outside the bounding box perhaps?

Any help appreciated!

Matt.

Follow this link, it goes on to explain about bounding boxes and which numbers to change.

Look for bboxv1_2.zip...probably on trainsim.com..that solves your problems.
As a rule I make my BBox approx .8m smaller than the overall length of the item. In other words make sure that the buffers and couplings are OUT of the BB.You can't go far wrong with that....

bboxv1_2.zip is now here. I uploaded it a few days ago.

Also check the size in the .eng or .wag file.
The last figure is the length of the vehicle.

This is not the size of the vehicle but the gap that MSTS makes for it.

If the size is too big you will appear to touch the vehicle but will not be close enough to couple.

If it is too small you will get an oversize gap between the buffers.

Remember to adjust the InertiaTensor entry to the same size.

Using bbox edit I've got the loco's and stock coupling beautifully now, front and back.

Thanks for the help all :)
