Woodhead V2 Activities for upcoming CD

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Woodhead V2 Activities for upcoming CD

Post by NeutronIC »

Steve has asked me to put the Woodhead V2 CD together, he's going to provide me with a list of suitable stock items to get permission to go on the CD and then what's needed is as many activities as possible!

So, calling all activity creators - have a look at Woodhead V2 and come up with some ideas for Activities. I'll update as soon as I get a stock list as it'd be nice to have all stock on the CD that the activities use of course.

Do I assume from this that the route is d/l-able in 4 chunks from on here but soon the route will also be available on CD but with activities? How about stock - will all that be included too?

Yes, Steve has uploaded the route to the site so it is available for download immediately - however I asked Steve about doing a CD, he hasn't got the time to prepare it himself but he's more than happy for us to do it.

I'll be aiming to put the route in to a self extract on the CD, plus stock and activities in another self extract just like Alan Salmon and Tim Court did the Mid East CD as that works very nicely.

I don't know what activities there are in Woodhead (if there are any) as I haven't seen it myself yet, obviously anything already in there will be included as well.

Once Steve emails me a list of ideal content, I'll start chasing permissions and then I'll know the final list for the CD. I'm hoping to have the CD done as soon as possible and should have a few copies to bring with me for Brighton hopefully :)

If it is going to be an 'official' activity set I hope Steve will provide a stocklist that activity writers must work within - I for one dislike activities that use out of period stock, etc.

Whatever stocklist steve gives me back is what all the activities will have to conform to, yes :) I won't be putting stock on there that Steve doesn't suggest and no activities will go on there that need other stock :)

Even if I have to write all the blessed things myself! :-)

(that's a hint, don't leave the activity writing to me :-) ).

so will you be posting up the stock list here so we know what to work with?
That would be very helpful if you could Matt! Also file ID's (if you have time!) would speed things up a lot in my opinion for d/l the stock!

Then we can all get our heads deep in the AE!!!

Would there be any guidlines on the type of activitys to be produced?
I dont know anything about the woodhead route really so i wouldnt know what type of activity would be appropriate.

Almost got the route now!
Time to play!!!!!

As soon as I have the list and permission for each file, i'll post the exact file ID's that I will be putting on the CD. I'll also test each activity that is mailed to me and if any stock changes are required for whatever reason I'll take care of that so don't worry too much.

As far as what activities, i've asked steve to think about that too but in the mean time do some research and see what you can find out - share anything on here of course :)

As a rough guide, i'm guesstimating steve is going to recommend the EM2's, 506's and probably blue/grey mark 1's at a minimum.

EM1's and Mk1s in Maroon and Blood and Custard sound quite a good idea too? I wonder if the BR standard non-corridor suburban stock was used - if so what was it hauled by? Any steamers present?

I would imagine Ian Jenkins new HTVs will get some use. And most of the short wheelbase BR standard wagons from the likes of Ian Morgan, Mike Simpson and Duckweed will be in period. We are talking the 60s and 70s aren't we?

What kind of activity you want to do is entirely up to you :)

I will probably do a bunch of small ones just as I did for Mid East so that beginners and exhibition visitors have something 5-15 minutes to do, so have fun and do whatever takes your fancy :)

You need to bother asking permission to include any of my models Matt. I'd be happy to contribute to what should be a great route. I love version 1.

For starters...
If we're concentrating on 60s-80s (DC Period)
Stock should include:
EM1&EM2 (all liveries (except the Dutch ones obviously)
EM Prototype "Tommy" (not yet out)
Blood & Custard Mk1s and Gresley coaching stock
Maroon Mk1s
Blue & Silver Mk1s
Class 44, 45, 40, 24, 50, 25, 101 all around Manchester area (to name but a few)
Class 47, 31, 37, 40, 46, 20, 101, 105 all around Sheffield (to name but a few)
Manchester to Harwich through trains changed engines at Sheffield (37 to 76 (Vaccuum version)
2x 76(Multiple) with speedlink service
76 (vac) with steel flats from Deepcar to Rotherwood, Mineral wagons to Deepcar for scrap stuff
Class 506s from Picc to Hadfield/Glossop (calling at Ashburys, Gorton, Guide Bridge, Flowery Field, Newton, Godley, Hattersley, Dinting Glossop and Hadfield)
Class 25 (x2) with PWay trains on the route
76 (x2 Multiple) with BOC tanks from Shefield to Rotherwood
MGR coal (up to 30 wagons of HEA, mineral wag, HCA) from Wath and Rotherwood to Mottram Sidings and Godley Junction (these were where the Electric loco chopped to D/E power (MGR usually Class 47).
Remember - Full MGRs / coal mineral wagons go West (to power stations eg: Fiddlers Ferry); Empties go East to Wath and Rotherwood
Light Engine movements from Reddish to Picc.

Besides which, I have tried unsuccessfully to create activities for this line at the moment. There is a problem with routing trains over the Easbound mainline just west of Pennistone Station. Everytime, when running the route in Activity Editor, the train reaches the inner home signal of Pennistone, the message of death appears. The Tagline is "AppName: train.exe AppVer: 1.16.5.912 ModName: offset: 000c301f"
Does this mean anything to anyone?

Also there is a dodgy signal just west of Ashburys when heading East (the sort where its green green green just until you get to it, then it flicks to red and you fail your activity). Has anyone else had this problem?

If not, then I look forward to getting an activity made by someone elso to work on my system. GOOD LUCK!

I've wasted 6 hours on this today, and now I'm going to have a cup of tea with or without Arsenic (I haven't decided yet). :o :x
