Warrington Railways..problem with activities

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Warrington Railways..problem with activities

Post by sjgprice »

I've hit a problem with creating activities where I end up with head-on collisions. The plan is:-

Loco leaves Springs Branch Depot onto Slow lines and heads south. Gets to junction south of Bamfurlong Jnc where slow lines join mainline, where an AI north bound train on the slow lines (not going via Bamfurlong Jnc but straight on) is signalled clear and once passed, get clear to proceed. Except the loco gets a clear as soon as reversed onto slow lines, the AI gets a clear and, if the timing is right at the diamond cross-over..crash!!

I've watched the signals clear in AE through the Tools\Verify starting state and it doesn't matter whether the "players" loco or the AI train gets the signals cleared first, the signals clear in both directions, at the appropriate time. This also happens when I drive the loco for real..couldn't believe my eyes the first time seeing a 81 on van train heading straight across my path!!

The reverse point out of Springs Branch is soon as possible arriving on the slow line (as it is in WCMLfreighttrips (many thanks for that activity)). I've tried putting the reverse point further north after the signal just passed Springs Branch to see if having an actual signal at the reverse point would help, but no.

I've created a few activities and messed about with AI trains to get in my way but this problem's got me beat. I've read through the Forum and picked up many tips but so far not seen this problem. If anyone's got any ideas how to solve it I'd be grateful.

The Warrington Railways Route is excellent and I look forward to the extension of the route - many thanks to those involved and to anyone who can shed light on my problem.

Thanks
Steve

This problem is my fault because of the way I built the track layout. I made these junction in what is called the easy way. There is no crossover in the junction, just track placed on top of each other so some trains wont recognise another train coming as both tracks do touch. Best way is just to try and avoid on-coming trains! Hope these jncs will be gone in the next release. :D

That explains it..thanks for your reply and yes I'll avoid on-coming trains..they'll just have to go Bamfurlong Jnc way!! :D
