AE crashing!!!!!!!

The MSTS Activity Editor allows you to make your own activities, or missions, for the player to complete. This is also how you can get lots of other trains running while you drive yours!

Personally I can't offer any reason for THAT message appearing, all I can say is I get it loads of times, whether it's because the prog is so large and trying to do too many things at the same time or what I don't know.

Last night my run of good luck with MSTS ran out. Starting last night, when I try to edit a service in the traffic editor, I too get the dreaded message. I can edit services in the player service editor, but not in the traffic editor.

Blaster, it sounds like we have a related affliction. Hopefully someone will have a remedy...

Thanks,

Jeff

It sounds like you will need to edit your registry. Search here and at Train-sim.com and you should find a thread or two dealing with what EXACT lines you will need to remove. I can't remember them off the top of my head and I don't want to get you messed up so look around and you will find it.

- Run regedit. (Start->Run-> type in 'regedit' then press OK)

- Search the registry for HWRenderer. (Ctrl-F in the regedit window, then type in 'HWRenderer' in the search field, I search only for keys). It will take some time to find it during which the regedit window does not change at all, there is no progress indicator.

- When HWRenderer is found, on the right window pane click on the first entry starting with 'AE_', then hold the shift key and click on the last entry starting with 'AE_'. All the 'AE_' entries should be selected. Release the shift key. Press the 'Delete' key and delete all the entries.

- Start the activity editor.

- Load an activity and ensure that view->service info is checked.

- Select tools->verify starting state

- The consist should appear in the 2D view.

Hope this helps

Since this has got to be a registry problem....

Wouldn't it be better to delete all registry keys associated with MSTS, after uninstalling the program, instead of just messing with the HWRenderer??

Then do a re-install.

Just asking.

Right im so glad or not , that some one else has this affiliction with error messages connected to the service /player editor. I too would appreciate the answer to y when i open the editor and click on player service it crashes. I have reduce the amounts of addons and i must of installed MSTS close to 20 times to constantly have different problems with it. I have just returned the MSTS to my Pc after the longest time it hasnt been on my pc since i bought the thing.

Im so frustrated by this thing/problem as it seems to be an un known problem that must be caused by a common factor ie XP/ Addon / Xtracks or registry file?

Close to a full wipe of XP and format C/ whats left to do?

MICROSOFT where ru ?

By the way i know its a pain but has anyone sent the error and then got a reply from Big Brother(M S)?

I have all routes and Mid East on XP os (which when i first got it worked fine) and wonder y? :-?

As for me, I haven't yet gotten to the stage of editing the registry and the crash problem seems to be wandering (now the traffic editor is fine, but I cannot select an activity in the S&C startup screen).

Howver, I'm starting to think that my problem is being caused by some faulty sms files I have been developing recently. I recall past posts on this issue, off to find them now...

Figure this one out.

My main PC is a PII 450 with 512Mb RAM a Savage 32Mb video card and (2) 13.5 HDD's with one devoted to MSTS. I have reinstalled MSTS 3 times and probably am not far from another. I have just slimmed my MSTS down to Mideast, Ohio Rail, Cajon Pass, Kicking Horse Pass and LGV Med in addition to the default routes. The bottom line is that my AE freezes up after about 10-15 minutes of using. Doesn't phone home or anything just freezes until I use the End Task and start over, consequently I save a lot.

HOWEVER, my laptop is a PII 266 with 32Mb of Ram and a 1.5Gb HDD. I have MSTS loaded on it with Mideast and I can run the AE all day. I have never crashed it. The graphics are terrible (probably an 8Mb adapter) but for doing screen shots for maps it is wonderful.

I can't explain it. I sure hope that big brother reads these forums!!
