Still under wraps........

Post by dee4141 »

My first attempt at a diesel - plenty to do yet, but at least it's made it into the sim!

Very Nice, im guessing by looking at the bogies that this is one of the Southern Regions 10201-10203 experimental locos?

Well spotted! :D I'm hoping to do all 3 , both in the black original livery and also BR Green.

Hi Danny,

A very welcome model indeed!!

These models will happily pay a visit to CC5/BC1 routes as they were also worked on London Midland metals hauling Anglo Scottish workings. I am sure I have a photo of one them in Glasgow.

You're right,Mick. In fact this is one of the reasons why I wanted to do these. A couple of years ago I reskinned Tim Court's version into 10201/2 in BR Green, and also made a "Royal Scot" headboard - I had plans to do a couple of activities, one for TM and another for Glasgow-Carlisle - but then the demise of BATS stopped all that. So the only way really is to build our own, and it's pleasing to see the level of interest.

I recently bought a great book on these diesels, with drawings and lots of photos, An interesting fact is that neither the Southern trio nor the LMS pair on loan to the Southern, ever worked in tandem on Southern metals. Of course they did on LM - there are several photos of 10201/2 heading the "Royal Scot". 10203 was more powerful, and headed this service on it's own.

As well as CC5/BC1 they should also fit in with Rick Loader's New Forest route.

Thanks for the comments. :D Steam will always be favourite with me, but there are a few diesels that I'd like to do eventually, and I've always wanted to have a try at this particular class.

There are still a couple of King Arthur's that I've promised to do so I'll be back on steam soon.

Don't no why people are complaing about it being diesel at least it's a steam era one,how about the Western Region Brown Boveri diesel,to go with these.
But must admit you do great steam loco's,and looking forward to the new King Arthurs, also like your Britannia's,could you adapt them and make a Clan Class, seems to be the missing loco, there were plans to build some for the Southern Region,II believe there were plans to build one by the Swanage Railway it was going to have a follow on number like Tornado.

Hi there

Utterly and totally agree with you. The experimental and 1st generation diesels were ok. Just remember If these diesels had been more reliable, steam would have disappeared of BR metals even faster. So god bless the first diesels.
