Front Coupling Fix

Post by longbow »

Has anyone suffered problems with the MSTS upgrade from 1.0 to 1.2? I need the front coupling fix but I've been put off up to now by stories of upgrade 1.1 corrupting MSTS.

Don't believe everything you hear, I have been using the original upgrade ever since it came out and have never had any problems with it.

1.2 shouldn't have been called an update by MS because it only includes content, ie loco's, coaches, sounds, cabviews. It does not include any changes to the actual game program (exe's dll's etc). If I recall correctly, according to MS, if you have MSTS 1.0 installed then you should update it to 1.1 first before going to 1.2. But, that is meanigless when 1.2 fixes nothing.

Don't be put off getting up to 1.1 (ie the update released earlier this year). It only caused problems for users who had made lots of .eng file changes in order to improve the front coupling problem. These changes were ok for 1.0 but made for problems when MS's fix was implimented as well.

My experience has been mixed. I can take any given engine and get any thing from an Arctic freeze-up to excellent results. Or something in between. I've tried to establish a "standard" *.eng to work with. Recently, I downloaded several wagons from different builders and found that some worked well right "out of the box", some worked after some tweaking and others didn't work at all no matter what. Some wagons worked well until I made a string of more than 3. Then it was crash city. I can't get consistent, predictable results out of the front coupler, that's what bugs me. I know the patch works because sometimes it couples beautifully.
Try it, see what happens.

Thanks. I have now installed the patch with no adverse consequences so far.

front coupler bug

Post by RRichter »

The front coupler bug still is present in MSTS 1.2

May be some fans havnt noticed the bug very well, only playing around a bit.

The bug happens, if you try pull some wagons with the front coupler away. There is a lot of messages about that terrible bug. M$ doesnt take any notice about that. M$ ignores the users.

In my opinion its the worst bug in MSTS, besides 100 other bugs.

Most switching activities dont use the front coupler. There is a lot of hot air and prattle around switching in MSTS , but I very guess, nobody did it really. The front coupler bug is easy to detect...

*angry*.

v1.1 is a whole lot better than 1.0 but generally I agree. Makes my blood boil too. How can you have a train driving simulator where you can't drive a train prototypically?
