The colour I am currently using as malachite has been sampled from several photographs of the real thing as she is now, however an indication of the colours you have used would be useful. What a great hobby we have trying to recreate liveries from many years ago using black and white photos or peoples memories to go by.

Richard, I'll need to give you a colour range as my textures over a model are never a uniform colour. I've had a quick check of recent textures and the ranges approx are :

Maunsell 35/77/58 to 48/96/74
Malachite 46/78/46 to 54/95/54
Brunswick 7/32/7 to 23/45/23

As I said earlier, these are only a personal view I've taken of the colours so it's likely that many would disagree. However I hope they at least provide a starting point for you to consider.

Thanks those certainly are interesting, At the moment I will keep her as she is but will use the others for different liveries, the Maunsell green will be really helpful. As you say Colours are so subjective but hopefully I can get something near enough. I am hoping to get a compiled model of this version into train simulator tomorrow, then we can go from there.

My usual method is to sample the colour from another model.
It might not be correct but at least it will be consistant.

In this case I would look at the BATS Southern stock.

That sounds like a good Idea Ian will take look at the BATS stock and see if I can work out which colour is which.

I have reproductions of these loco livery colours in my SR book collection - PM me if you are interested. However I'd echo the point made earlier that these may not look right in game.

Just as I thought I had got to the end and was getting ready to release I have come across a very frustrating problem somebody may be able to help me with. It is to do with coupling gaps. If I set it so the couplings are correct with the origin point right in the middle of the length of the loco, it skews oddly when going through tight corners e.g. crossovers etc. It just looks horrible as it is not on the track properly. If however I move the origin so that this doesn't happen which involves shifting the model forwards slightly it goes round corners beautifully but the tender gap is too large and the front coupling too small. I have tried altering the COG in the eng file but it has no effect (does this or the centre variable actually have any effect in .eng files). So either I release a model that goes round corners terribly but looks right or one which corners right but has wrong couplings. Anything I can do?

One thing you could try is to make a single poly at the centre and call it Main.

Then make the loco bogie1 centred at the centre of the driving wheels and parented to main.
This will cause the loco to swing out at the front with the wheels centred on the track.

The leading truck should be bogie1.

Make sure all the loco parts are parented to bogie2 rather than Main

No luck with that I am afraid, for some reason as soon as I open the regulator the loco jumps instantaneously several hundred yards down the track (or even off it) and derails, very odd. Also for no apparent reason that I can see the axes appears to have swapped around because the crew freight anim and smoke effects are reversed, all axes are fine in TSM.

I take it you meant to call the loco bogie2?

Well I think I have worked out a suitable solution, by altering the tender so the front coupling is further back I have got a decent, loco tender gap. It may look very slightly odd going through corners but it was far better than the other options.

A few more little things to sort out like freight anims etc and then It should be good to go.
