more HSL values...
from http://www.gwr.org.uk

pre-28 122 96 9
post 28 120 96 11

these seem to be way off compared to the paints and...

from digital photos at Didcot last weekend (flash photos from inside cabs, and modern paints so they will not be too accurate)

14xx 83 23 23 (exterior)
14xx interior 90 18 26
41xx - 1940's 113 33 23 - much more green
other 1338? 110 32 20

Note the saturation values are 20-30, lightness around 20 (though would be more variable)
The Hue values seem close to the ones I suggested, but maybe need a small adjustment to make them more green.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this topic? Eddie what are you using?

I've captured the blends you posted in the "tank" thread and will "play around" later this week, as part of my next loco. project.

I tend to take a very subjective approach to colour choice, so can't offer any meaningful comment with regard to specific HSL figures. I think most relevant points have been made:

The further you are from a (real world) object, the greyer it looks.

MSTS tries to replicate this to a degree.

MSTS lighting is good but does not come close enough to reality to simply pick a colour and leave it at that. Shadows, diffusion etc. are not properly handled.

Even if we could find THE undisputed colour reference, it would need to be "tweaked" to be properly rendered by MSTS.

I'll certainly adopt a standard colour, provided I can get the right effects in my models.
