Maya exporter?

Trolling around the forums it appears there's not a .s exporter for Maya. Is that true?

Alternatively, is there an exe that'll convert 3DS to .s - or along a more convoluted route, a Studio MAX exporter so I can export from Maya, import into Studio MAX and then export to .S from there?

Cheers,

As far as I know there is no native .s exporter for Maya.

Located in the …Train Simulator\UTILS folder is the conv3ds.exe program and associated support documents. On CD1 there is also a techdocs.zip (or similar) file which has more information on creating 3D objects for MSTS.

In the release notes for this program it states:

‘The Conv3DS utility converts one or more Autodesk 3D Studio Release 4 files
(which have a .3DS extension) to a single Kuju Shape file (which has a .S
extension).’

I have never used this utility but I have had experience with using *.3DS files in different 3D modelling programs and have found not all 3DS files are created (or read) equally. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck.

Use your FBX plug-in for Maya > Max . The alternative would be Polytrans - many more options with this method , particularly for mapping . Either method would allow you to export .3ds to Max or Gmax . Gmax may be a better option since as posted above there can be problems with the shape converter ... even with 2 meshes produced with the same max install .

Good Luck
