do it you're self, couperling conversion kits

Post by wrightsie »

i've a fan of steam, but prefer setam on the mainline{yes i work for the mid hants i know}. i would like to know, is it possibly to change the couplerlings on the flying scotsman to automatics, i would also need to convert the stock to automatics, this is so i can whack a diesel on the back and make a proper steam excursion. any ideas?

Easy! Go into the ENG file and replace the line 'Chain' with 'Automatic', then convert the stock by going into the WAG file and doing the same thing!

Use WORDPAD to edit MSTS files, and not Notepad, as the files are Unicode format, and on some flavours of Windoze, Notepad will mess up your files.

On Windows 95, 98 and ME notepad is no good - use wordpad (or write.exe to its friends - anyone who used Win3 will remember this one)

changing the subject

Post by steve33108 »

to save space i am slightly changing the subject of this post, i would now like to now about the breaking settings of couperlings, i have seen breifly that you can make a couperling super strong so it never breaks, i know you do this by altering the .eng file, but wot is the setting i need? by the way, i voted yes in the poll, the current owner has money and not fans at the top of their list!!

I don't know ANYONE who does not have money at the top of their list where steam preservation is concerned. Did you know that the owner is currently facing a £750,000 bil to get FS into running order for main line use again? With that worthy object in view he deserves every penny he can scrape together.

stuff

Post by steve33108 »

i dont wanna start an argument, but i was reading in steam railways a while ago, that he pulled it out of a vsoe run to send it as a static display at a steam fair, and all the usual crew refused their services for that event, the owner ended up with a heavy bill from the vsoe and a bad mark against his name on the list of people who will be bidding for the contract for the vsoe when it comes up again. can you help with my question? are you doin a route from weymouth to london? no i didnt know about the bill, but if i ah dknown i would have started up about it! :D

The latest version of Route-Riter allows you to change the coupling type and brake system type on all items without your having to bother opening all the .eng and .wag files.

Automatic/Chain

Post by NZBigDave »

Why on earth did BR use automatic couplings post-1968? The A4 class were the only engines in Britain EVER to have automatics. ALL the others were chain.
