Freightanim Help?

Post by rwaceyw »

Hi guys,

Trying to add a freightanim headlight to a model, following the instructions on the steam4me tutorial. I've shifted the headlight into place in SFM and Shape Viewer, and put it in the ENG file as follows

Code: Select all

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0D0t______

Wagon ( ELR_CT_207202_DMBS
Comment ( Making Track Class 207 DEMU )
 Comment ( (C) 2004 David Babb )
 Comment ( Last modified 18/04/04 )

 Type ( Engine )
 WagonShape ( ELR_CT_207202_DMBS.s )

    FreightAnim ( Thumper_Headlight.s 1 1 )

    Size
  ( 2.89321m 3.80142m 20.63m )
 CentreOfGravity ( 0.0m 0.0m 0.0m )
However, although the model appears in-game perfectly, the headlight doesn't appear at all.

Any thoughts? :)

David

I don't know if this will help, but I always use the value of 0.1 for both number entries to stop things ending up in weird places...

Cheers

If the headlamp is made up of several shapes connected to a main part, then only the main part will show in the game. All shapes need to be merged into one for freight anims.

Change the WagonShape line to look at the Thumper_Headlight.s and comment out the freight animation line.

This should load the headlight as a loco and let you see it in the sim.

Did you centre the axis to the origin?

Why do you only have 3 values?

Code: Select all

FreightAnim ( SVRCrew_45110_01.S 0 3.0 0.0 )

Wouldn't that result in the headlight being a separate loco to the rest of the unit? If its the only way to do it, i'll stick with it - however i'd rather have it so it comes 'on the model' as such.

Thats all the steam4me tutorial said use :-?...what do the other figures stand for?

My suggesting making the headlight as a loco is only to let you see where it shows in the sim - if it shows at all.

There is a good chance that the freight anim is being placed inside the loco.
Shape viewer shows second shapes in the position they were made and not the position they were moved to in SFM.

Try using my measuring tool to get the exact length of the loco and then make a box of that length in your modelling program and position the light on that. Centre it to origin and then delete the box and save the light.

One of the values is used for tender coal shapes so that it drops down at a suitable rate as coal is consumed by the locomotive. The other two are x and y co-ordinates I think.

I think you have to have all of them in there and make sure the y-axis co-ordinate is not zero.

Tried your tip Ian, built the light again in the 'right place' however its not appearing below the coach, rather than on it :(. Works fine in shapeviewer though!
